master bathroom redo: would you rather have...

I did a large vanity with one sink. I love the extra counter space (which you wouldn't have with the shelving) and I like my privacy in the bathroom.

Why would we get ready together? Weird.

Because we go to sleep and get up for work at the same time? Do you not? I see my neighbors all leave around the same time for work also. I am in the bathroom from 6:30-7 every morning getting ready. Where else would dh be if I'm there alone?

I love the built-ins.

No, we don't get up at the same time. Don't you have two bathrooms so couldn't someone go into another one. We just put in a second bathroom for my husband but we are very rarely in it at the same time. He gets up much earlier.

Double sinks. A center column of storage would be more than sufficient for me. And I would love to have my sink not share a counter top with DH's sink.

I just went to a design trend workshop at a design convention and counter top is weighing as more important than the dual sinks - and even when space is not small - it is a design trend over the more is more. While I still dream of my own bathroom (two in master - though my DH thinks I am wacky!) I think if space was an issue - I would go for more counter space over second sink

Ditto. I had to fight my husband on this one but I just told him that I need the counter space which we couldn't have had with double and that he always got priority for the sink when he needs it. Mostly it's his shaving in the morning and I just stand to my side and do makeup. We have a nice wide mirror though so the whole vanity works.

I would have done double if we had enough space to placate him but I think single is enough. Counterspace, drawers, storage and mirror size - all more important.

I guess my old 1br apartment was a McMansion, because it had double sinks.

I have never, in nearly 17 years of marriage, gotten ready at the same time as my husband. Even when planning to leave the house at the same time in the morning (mostly weekends where we’re doing things together) one of us gets up first and gets ready. Lucky person number two gets a few more minutes of sleep now, or was busy taking care of the little babies.
I have never brushed my teeth at the same exact time as my husband. We have had bathrooms with a double sink all but or year. We only use one sink, the other faucet only ever gets used when the sink is cleaned. Waste of space in my opinion.

One sink more cabinets. I hate things on counters.

We opted for double sinks with a storage column in the middle. It works really well.

+1 after 7+ years of marriage. Our existing "modesty wall" (pony wall) between the vanity and toilet puzzles me too -- I would never in a million years go to the bathroom with DH in the room, or hang around while he went. I'm not a prude but I do like to keep that one shred of remaining mystique in my marriage. And as others have said, we never brush/floss/whatever at the same time because we stagger our bathroom time. Consensus here is leaning heavily toward dual sinks, but I'm glad at least a few people relate! Ugh, stuff on counters...

Maybe some people have to leave the house at the same time as their spouse to get to work on time. Not that difficult to fathom.

+2. Over 17 years for us and we don't use the bathroom at the same time. We get up at different times even though we leave for work around the same time. We never get ready at the same time. Do those of you who get ready at the same time have to jockey for the shower as well? You don't have dual showers, right? The extra storage and counter space is worth it to us. We have enough other toilets in the house that if anyone needs to go, there is a pot for them so no need to share at all while getting ready.
