| double sinks are so strange to me -- really you guys have to do stuff in unison? seems like a gigantic waste of space -- would much rather have the extra cabinet space than another sink to clean. |
| Single sink. |
| His and hers master bathrooms |

I haven't read the entire thread, but if you are doing this for resale, it would be cheaper to do a double vanity than it would to do one sink with custom built-ins on either side. So there's a vote for the double sink.
(Personally, I'd probably prefer the built-ins for all that beautiful storage). |
| I would go for one longer sink for the increase in the storage. |

New poster. I'd say it really depends. Do you not have other storage in the bathroom? We have a closet with double doors in our master bath so more storage is completely unnecessary and the openness is more welcome imo, so built ins would be a complete waste.
I also find that anything we tend to need day to day fits in the vanity's drawers/cabinets. If you don't have a closet, I'd say building a smallish (if you're tight on space) built in closet to put towels/shampoo/extra toiletries/etc would be more beneficial than upper cabinets in the bathroom. Regarding single vs double sinks.. you can't beat the versatility of double sinks, even though they aren't as regularly used. Plus it depends where the wife does her makeup/keeps her stuff/morning routines as two sinks might be more beneficial..? Long story short, it depends. |
| I freaking hate double sinks. I'd rather have extra storage. |

Another person with a 2 bathrooms (60's split level). DH hates the master because it's tiny and has no window, so he insists on sharing with the kids (1 and 3). I LOVE having my own tiny bathroom all to myself!
OP, I love your dream picture, but I agree with the others- for resale, you have to do double vanity. |
DH and I never brush our teeth simultaneously, but I still like having my own sink. In my old house, I kept mine shiny... or at least it was dirty with my own stuff, lol. Now we have a single sink with more counter storage... but I hate having to use the same sink. He washes his hands and leaves soap all over. He splashes water around. Leaves toothpaste residue in the sink. |
| I think the OP picture is beautiful, but who needs that much storage right there by the sink? Unless you buy all your toiletries in bulk at Costco and need to store them right there, and don't have a linen closet, so need to store all the household towels there. |
| I don't share the obsession for double sinks that most people have but that looks like an awful lot of cabinetry. Do you really keep that much stuff in your bathroom? Would one tall cabinet suffice with two sinks? I like the look of your original photo and one sink is plenty for us but I think it works because we each have a lot of counter space beside the sink. |
| Design the bathroom that fits YOUR needs. I like counter top space and my privacy. One nice sink, but two sets of storage drawers. |
+1. We never get ready in the bathroom together, even when we have double sinks. I really see no point in having double sinks in a smallish bathroom. I don't see a big difference between using one sink and using two sinks that are *right* next to each other. |

I hate clutter on the countertop. I agree that you need enough counter space to put down your makeup, etc., but I'm not leaving it all out there. I vote for storage!
Someone asked what you have in the storage -- I wonder where those of you who don't have lots of storage put your stuff? We have lots of storage, and use it all. Here's a sampling of what we have: vitamins, OTC medicines, bandaids & bandages, mouthwash, extra toothpaste & dental floss, mouth rinse, extra soap, clarisonic, makeup, lotion, hair gel, dry shampoo, body powder, cleaning products & brushes, shaving gel, extra razor blades, extra toilet paper, towels, perfume & cologne, clothing steamer, hair dryer & brushes & curling iron, lighted mirror, manicure & pedicure supplies, lighted mirror, travel-sized clothing steamer...., and that's just what I can think of off the top of my head. Do you absolutely have to have all of this in the bathroom? No. But it is nice to have, and we use it all. |
| Fwiw, I hate double sinks! So we do exist. |
