| The protests were very bad for Mizzou. People won't apply to places that don't seem safe. I bet he hat OOS applies cations go down. UGA probably won't lose many in state know da. And even if they did, they have too many qualified in state kids as it is. There won't be too much if a loss from this as far as numbers goes. |
+1 |
The White supremacists are there because they are protesting actions that the Charlottesville community, which is pretty intertwined with the UVA community has taken to remove statues celebrating Confederate leaders. The UVA community is not neo Nazi, the protesters are coming from outside of the area. |
| Would the same ninicompoops show up if the community was retiring Nazi momentos and statutes? Why even retire the latter in the name of the first amendment? |
| The white nationalists walked thru UVA, and that's the association. I do not know why they were allowed to walk thru UVA. |
Nincompoop? I'd hate to hear what you'd call MLK for wanting to retire segregation. But that's another topic. |
Not good. Why didn't the police keep the groups apart? Who exactly told them to let it go that far? |
If only Abraham Lincoln had not supported the movement and civil war to abolish slavery in America we would not have all these problems with White nationalists and neo Nazis...wistfully wanting to turn back the clock and make America great again? |
|
Make America great again ... for whom?
Goes back to who the framers of the US constitution really meant by "we" the people? |
| I'm out of state...I had always viewed UVA as one of the top publics in the nation--up there with Michigan, Berkeley, etc. However, this kind of incident would make me think twice about sending my kids there (assuming they get in and have other choices). There's no comparison between anti-war protests, environmental issues, etc at Berkeley and neo-nazis. Posters who think that those are comparable probably don't understand the mindset of the demographic who wants their kids to attend top schools. |
| That's why UVA is not a "top" school, the character, and mindset of their students differ from those at Berkeley. It is a top school in Virginia. |
It depends on how the leadership of the university handles things. After their protests, Mizzou took a huge hit in enrollment that they are still dealing with. They somehow took a stance that managed to piss off both BLM and moderates/conservatives all in one fell swoop. |
You're insane. |
But at the schools with the other protests, it's the STUDENTS doing the protesting. The protests in Charlottesville have nothing to do with the students or the University. |
+1 UVA students don't even return to campus until next week. |
