Will riots/demonstrations affect UVA reputation/applications?

While I would never send my child to UVA (southern racial animosity but that's just me), I agree with you. Even Penn State has been slowly recovering. U of Chicago took a bit of time to recover from Leopold and Loeb decades ago.

I hate to say this - I am a UVA supporter - but the news snippet I saw of the protesters sure looked they could be (hypothetically) UVA alums (white, preppy, mop-top types in collared shirts). If nothing else, the coverage made me feel like this movement is no longer on the fringes and who knows who else will come out of the closet. My DC is applying to college this year and it will be on my mind....

I posted this information in another thread but worth posting here also.

The organizer of the demonstration is a white nationalist, Jason Kessler. He graduated from the University of Virginia and lives in Charlottesville. Unfortunately, the apple didn't fall far from the tree. Granted, one rotten apple does not reflect the entire student body, just as UPenn graduate Donald Trump does not reflect the intellect of the the entire student body.

The organizer of the demonstration is a white nationalist, Jason Kessler. He graduated from the University of Virginia and lives in Charlottesville. Unfortunately, the apple didn't fall far from the tree. Granted, one rotten apple does not reflect the entire student body, just as [b]UPenn graduate Donald Trump does not reflect the intellect [b]of the the entire student body.

Oh, oh, please don't stain my al mater, Wharton, with the low intelligence quotient of the illiterate Donald Trump who never was admitted at the outset but transferred in later from Podunk community university after big Daddy bubba greased the path with his money.

I agree (DC attends UPenn) with you but it is what it is. UVA has Jason Kessler and, shudder, UPenn has Trump though there is nothing reflective at either university that applauds them.

I'm from PA and even in the 80s UVA was a big deal; only top of the class applied.

There is a difference between a few bad apples and confederate flags peppering the campus on license plates and stickers on trucks.
