I am inbound for Walker-Jones but we would like to send DD to Langley with her friends. It seems like we have one of the worst numbers in the city But I am still hopeful of getting in eventually.

I think the IBs on the waitlist must have been post-lottery additions? I do know someone IB who matched elsewhere and then decided to add Langley after seeing all the friends who matched there.

That makes sense. IF you add post-lottery, early action doesn't apply. But if they have to create a new class to accommodate the IB students who did apply before round 1.

I don't think the guarantee holds if you don't apply in the initial lottery.

Do folks think they will add a class?

What this makes me question is how DCPS can afford to keep both Noyes and Bunker Hill open (I am sure there are other places in the city, but this is a neighborhood I know.) With BMS making these back into Elementary schools rather than education campuses, they combined have an enrollment of less than 375.

Burroughs has almost 300. Langdon has more than 300. LaSalle Backus has less than 300 and it is still an education campus.

Because of future enrollment forecasts.

I think they can get by with just two classrooms. 32 kids with guaranteed seats will attrition down to 28 over the summer, easily. However, DCPS may decide there is enough interest to add a class anyway, even though the guarantee is not forcing its hand. I think they will add it next year if not this year.

Overall applications to Ellington were up 90 over last year (594 total).

I did a descending sort by waitlist and it was interesting I was happily surprised at how many applicants there are to Marie Reed.

Now can you merge with DCPCS waitlist data and make a list for us? K thanks

Anonymous wrote:Looks like Langley had a great year, 20% increase in PK3 applicants , and upticks for PK4 and K as well. Is it due to the new principal?

How can there be 3 IB on the WL. I thought it was Early Action? Make me question the accuracy of this data.

They might be post-lottey adds. Or they could be kids who matched with a school they ranked higher but are on the Langley WL automatically due to having an older sibling or twin at Langley.

Can't be post lottery additions - this list is current as of 3/31 (before results came out).

Anonymous wrote:Wow Peabody had another monster year. 45 in-bounds pk3 kids waitlisted.

Is that a good thing?

It's interesting to see how many kids there are living in-bounds (and then compare that to how many are staying for Watkins). The current K class was also very large (49 IB PK3 waitlisted). Will be interesting to see how many go to Watkins.

Noticing that fact made me giggle too. Other schools have higher percentages of shut out IB pk4ers

Seriously. Other PK4 IB waitlists:

Key: 20
Lafayette: 33
Mann: 11
Murch: 10
Oyster Adams English: 34
Ross: 14
Brent PK3: 30, PK4: 29
Maury PK3: 42 PK4: 30
Peabody PK3: 45 PK4: 21

Cry me a river, Janney.

Again- this was 32 IB families and while I'm sure none of them are happy about it probably my only a handful of them are the ones "organizing." So don't attribute this to "Janney." Also- many Hill families also complaining on this thread.

I've heard Hearst also has IB kids on the waitlist, don't know if this is true or how many though.
