From the website - To secure their seat at your school, in-boundary families must submit a My School DC lottery application by the Wednesday, March 1st, 2017 11:59 pm deadline. Families will only receive the Early Action PK3 or PK4 match for a school if they are not matched to any other school. Therefore families are encouraged to rank their Early Action Pre-Kindergarten school as their first choice on the application. If the child is matched with the in-boundary school, the family must enroll the student by the lottery enrollment deadline of May 1, 2017. Note, if a student is matched with a PK3 or PK4 seat at a school ranked higher than the in-boundary school, the student will no longer qualify for “early action” access at the in-boundary school. |
But with the guarantee (or even without it), why would there be no-preference kids admitted and IB kids on the waitlist? |
Maybe they all have autism? I dunno, that is weird. |
The kids with autism assigned at Browne (and the other schools with these programs) will come from all over the city. The self-contained classrooms will have a very small number of students, typically no more than 5-7 |
Ok... so 5 no preference and 8 not matched adds to 13. Yet some IB were waitlisted despite the guarantee? I don't get it. |
| Re: IB WLers at Miner and other guaranteed EA programs... When I asked this question in a past year, it turned out that that's where they tabulated kids who were Head Start kids assigned to Miner but who would only be turning 3 during the course of the year (because under that program they start mid-year as soon as they turn 3, apparently). I have no idea why they tabulate them as kids on the WL, but that's what I was told they do. (And it makes sense because obviously those kids need to be recorded somewhere and they aren't recorded anywhere else.) |
I think the earlier PPs are misreading the bolded info as a directive (which, honestly, is probably what DCPS wants you to do). This was the exact same rule in place in previous years. You just have to list your EA IB as one of the top 12 and, if you match there, you're guaranteed it. This just highlights that the guarantee only applies if 1) you list it as one of the 12 and 2) you don't get in somewhere you rank higher. That's it. |
| If you dont list your inbound in the initial lottery but then add it after results are released which you could do the day lottery results were released, you end up being wait listed as an inbound student. |
I suppose if people were very savvy they could have done that the night of March 30. |
Yup, it is tricky language. Dcps wants you to rank it first so you don't match and choose elsewhere. Not cool. |
