For the 100000th time. THE KIDS DONT EAT THE LUNCH! They say it's nasty. You would be surprised how much is thrown away. If it's not pizza, it's trash.

Not at our school. The kids devour the lunch. It's also halfway decent.

Same at our kids' charter! They LOVE school lunch.

That will take the pressure of some families who are debating on whether to take the risk. The street I live on is a mess.

Students who don't show up today will be processed under the truancy procedures of the District of Columbia Public Schools.

Uh, thanks hall monitor. That's why I suggested that the Chancellor announce that students not I. School today will receive and excused absence. DCPS has done that before.

Maybe this is an opportunity to teach kids about resilience?

Are you speaking for children in title 1 schools too? Or just yours?

I agree that schools should be closed. But please don't pretend you know what it's like to live without knowing where your next meal is coming from.

Not OP but I work at title 1 and I have to force the kids to eat their food. Many of the kids who people always claim "need to eat" don't come to school when the weather is bad. If it's raining too hard, or if it's too cold they are absent.

Agree most likely to be out when cold as no cars, less warm clothes, and parents maybe not working and home anyway!!! And yes I worked at title 1's for 9 years. Attendance poor on Mondays, Fridays, days before and after holidays, when it rained, when it snowed or any other extreme weather, and 1st period.

My kid loves the lunch this year. It's a vast improvement over Chartwells.

Seriously???? What is DCPS trying to prove by staying opened?

I'm a teacher who is seriously considering not going in to avoid the nightmare that will be today...but I will most likely end up going in anyway because I care about kids.

My office is open so thank goodness the school is open. Where am I going to find childcare now?

+1. Not all of us can stay at home with kids.

Huh? This happens quite frequently in the suburban school districts in the winter. What exactly is silly?

We live in Fairfax and a two hour delay starts the day at 11:15. One of my kids had lunch at 11:30. It does feel silly.

I'm always surprised when DCPS doesn't close-with so many kids walking and taking public transportation to school, it seems like bad weather esp sleet like this would making walking pretty treacherous.

Schools are not baby sitters. Question should be what is your child going to learn today?

Anyone catch Bowser on the news this morning? Did she explain why she opened schools with the current conditions?

I live on a major street and it's not fully plowed yet. It's really shocking to me that DCPS didn't close.
