Dcps 2 hour delay

Huh? This happens quite frequently in the suburban school districts in the winter. What exactly is silly?

Are the roads clear in parts of dc? Looks like 2 inches of ice where we are near bethesds.

I'm sorry, but there is no way on God's green earth that this decision is going to hold. Look outside. This is DC. They will amend this decision in about one hour from now.

We're taking a snow day in NW. We got 3 inches and have no interest in testing the roads or walking on ice-covered sidewalks.

If they are going to stick with their 2-hour delay decision I wish Chancellor Wilson would issue a statement that children who are unable to make it to school today will be given an excused absence. That will take the pressure of some families who are debating on whether to take the risk. The street I live on is a mess.

That is the least they can. This was a bad call. If they are concerned about feeding people then say the schools are open as feeding stations and are otherwise closed.

You need to think of DCPs as a social service agency, not just a school system. The community needs its hot lunch!

Students who don't show up today will be processed under the truancy procedures of the District of Columbia Public Schools.

I also think that schools should be closed given the conditions today. But mocking poor children who rely on the schools for hot meals is really beyond the pale.

Bowser and the head of Metro sat side by side across the big desk from Trump late yesterday. You'd think that on the way out of the White House it might have occurred to them to coordinate schools and public transit today!

+1 it's the same as three hots and a cot, not any real learning going on.

For the 100000th time. THE KIDS DONT EAT THE LUNCH! They say it's nasty. You would be surprised how much is thrown away. If it's not pizza, it's trash.

What people in charge seem to forget is that so many teachers call out on days like this (because so many can't afford to live in the city) that classes get combined, often there are no sub plans, and very little learning happens. I'm a teacher who is seriously considering not going in to avoid the nightmare that will be today...but I will most likely end up going in anyway because I care about kids.

Not at our school. The kids devour the lunch. It's also halfway decent.

Are you speaking for children in title 1 schools too? Or just yours?

I agree that schools should be closed. But please don't pretend you know what it's like to live without knowing where your next meal is coming from.
