| 3 of my gay friends voted for trump. |
|
I sat next to a table of 4 gay men the other night. Our tables were close, so I could hear their conversation.
They were very excited about a Trump presidency. And, they were excited because these men want the same things that straight people want - jobs, a growing economy, and security at home. They believe he will work to make this happen. Here is a newsflash - LBGTQ folks want the same things as straight folks. |
For gay marriage to be illegal? For conversion therapy for gay people? Also, technically, the thing that more people wanted was for Hillary to be president. |
| His VP-elect, Pence, is notorious for his conversion programs for LGBT teens, many of whom committed suicide during the course of the program. |
| Side note: fear is part of many people's reaction but in my circles people are pretty angry too. |
her words on Terry Gross' segment - 2014 http://www.npr.org/templates/transcript/transcript.php?storyId=321313477

That's a pretty big thing in and of itself. The other fear is that he won't veto what Congress tries to push through. So this isn't even about Pence. If Congress tries to push through legislation allowing businesses (and even medical facilities) to refuse to serve LGBT based on religious beliefs, I think most people fear that Trump won't veto it. Trump has said so many conflicting things during his campaign, so the overall feeling is that while he may not be vocally against the gay community, he doesn't care enough to veto or stop what the Republican-dominated Congress tries to do. And the Supreme Court appointments make it even worse because the only avenue people have if Congress passes (and Pres. Trump signs) anti-LGBT legislation is through the courts, but if there are two very conservative justices appointment, that means that avenue of recourse is gone as well. And again, given Trump has actually said very little about what he actually will or won't do, the predominant theory is that he will delegate a lot of the decision-making to the Republicans in Congress. And they have been clear about what they would like to do. That's is the concern some people have. |
Yes, I assure you we are well aware. Fresher in the memory though is Pence's efforts to allow goods, services, jobs to be denied to gay people in Indiana. The idea that people who voted for THAT are upset because some of us are denying you the pleasure of our company is hilarious. |
The problem with anonymous forums is people can make stuff up. |
True. And, you don’t have to believe me. I was a bit surprised myself, but it happened. They also said they thought Melania Trump will be the most beautiful first lady ever. |
sorry - But this line is very unclear. I posted from Gross' segment to show that Hillary is no angel - that she does indeed change b/c she knew that anti-gay views would damage her reputation. You can't deny that. Perhaps she did evolve? I can't say for certain. But having been through two Clinton regimes, I can say that both she and her husband were opportunists. And although I didn't vote for Hillary, I didn't cast my vote for Trump either. So if you're trying to make a disparaging comment about me based on faulty thinking, you need to eat your words. Furthermore, you don't know my relationship with gay people. You have no clue how old I am or how I grew up and who my friends were and are. But I will say this - that as someone with a very good friend who died from complications due to AIDS (b/c it was a big think in the 80s), you most certainly should eat crow if you intended to label me as a hater. I know gays who voted for Clinton; I know gays - older gays - who voted for Trump. Gays are not a monolithic group. And while this forum loves to throw around Godwin's Law b/c it doesn't require much thinking, there's enough support for the gay community to fight back if any decisions are in the works to strip gays of human rights. Finally, Trump, who was around for the opening of Studio 54 (if you, PP, even understand that reference), was hobnobbing with the likes of Andy Warhol (to name one) who was openly gay before any gays were "liberated." History isn't just about bombs and wars, people. Your presidential candidates also had some interesting pasts that had nothing to do with the economy. So if you wanted an honest person in the WH, you should have studied how they lived before they got to this point. |
Op you can't be serious. "Pansexual" kids in your dc's school. These poor kids are what-- 14? |
No kidding. TBH, I had to look up the meaning of “pansexual.” I am beginning to fear for the future of our country with the generation of kids being raised today. Is this what the “sexual revolution” wrought? |
yes! I'm a teacher. We have tons of kids who are "sexually fluid." In fact, there's a child at my son's MS who's transgendered. boy to girl - 7th grade I think it's a fad. I grew up with two good friends who were not openly gay until they were old enough to go clubbing! (80s) And while I was around a few drag queens (Halloween was a favorite time.), I don't remember anyone being pansexual. bisexual, yes but not pansexual The bis I knew identified with one sex but were attracted to both males and females. |

They are worried about President Pence when Trump gets bored/overwhelmed/impeached and steps down.
