What is the LBGTQ population afraid of in a Trump presidency?

Well, which is it pp? Bored? Overwhelmed? Impeached?
Seems to me that you all just don’t want to face the reality that Trump has been elected.
He will serve well.
And, I agree with another poster who said considering the record people have here for predicting outcomes, I am thinking the opposite will be true.
He will not only serve out his term, but will be elected to a second term!!!

Here goes again: he lamented Obergefell decision and explicitly stated that he hoped his scotus picks would result in different outcome. 2) he picked mike pence who has been pro-conversion therapy, wanted businesses in Indiana to be able to deny jobs, goods, services to gay people. (As in "no, lesbian couple, you may not eat here...because you're lesbians."

Is any of this ringing a bell?

Don't be a fucking idiot. Trump has appointed notirious homophobes to his transition team already, in addition to the homophobe Pence, and his promises to appoint super conservative judges. This means that the executive, legislative, and judicial advances that protect gay people from discrimination at work, protect their marriages and rights to adopt children, and protect them against hate crimes, could all be rolled back.

Before the election: Because he denigrated so many groups of people and picked Pence as a running mate, people who vote first on human rights considered him a threatening candidate.

After the election: He picked Ken Blackwell of FRC - a designated hate group that is anti-LGBT rights - to run his domestic policy team.

And, her timing in changing her opinion on marriage equality was a tad bit convenient for this election.

Anonymous wrote:All of you realize that HRC did not support support marriage equality until 2013, right?

In 2000 she stated, "Marriage has got historic, religious and moral content that goes back to the beginning of time and I think a marriage is as a marriage has always been, between a man and a woman."

In 2003 she said, "marriage has a meaning that ... I think should be kept as it historically has been, but I see no reason whatsoever why people in committed relationships can't have ... many of the same rights and the same ... respect for their unions that they are seeking. And I would like to see that be more accepted than it is. ... I also think that we can realize the same results for many committed couples by urging that states and localities adopt civil union and domestic partnership laws."

By the Left's rules, all LGBTQ activists should be against Hillary Clinton. However, it would be ridiculous to base one's decision on these two comments. These are issues that evolve. I am confident the majority of our population will become more knowledgeable of LGBTQ issues and more tolerant.

Cite a source for this.

In 2000 he supported the use of federal funds for therapy that would encourage people to change their sexual behavior, so "conversion therapy." I see no evidence that this was ever implemented by him, though it would be reasonable to assume he still supports it. However, I've seen nothing that says HE implemented it and that teens have committed suicide as a result of his actions. Please provide a source for your claim.

I voted HRC, but unsubstantiated claims by liberals of Trump/Pence-related suicides are pissing me off. You are using the suffering of others to prop up your political beliefs and it's not right. Public coverage of suicide (even untrue rumors) can inspire ACTUAL suicide, especially among youth.

Again, please source your info on Pence-related conversion therapy suicides and I'll stand corrected.

I come from a very large family, and my sole gay sibling is the only one who voted for Trump. He lives in San Francisco....

Pick one, I think any of the three are equally likely. But what the hell do I know? I thought Americans were smart enough to not fall for a con man. Turns out I was wrong on that account.

They were very excited about a Trump presidency. And, they were excited because these men want the same things that straight people want - jobs, a growing economy, and security at home. They believe he will work to make this happen.

Here is a newsflash - LBGTQ folks want the same things as straight folks.

+1

From a gay person, thank you. Also, Trump does not seem anti-gay to me, despite how the media makes him out to be.

While there might be some evangelical holdouts, I don't think most Americans, Republican or otherwise, are anti-gay.

They almost all have gays somewhere in their extended family that they know personally. And parents who really didn't like the gay thing because secretly they were hoping for grand kids have their concerns allayed because of the possibility LGTB now have of marrying and having kids through adoption, paid birth mothers, or simply natural births if female. With the transgender bathroom thing they just want common sense to prevail and not have regulations forcing them into what they view as weird situations.

Well they're probably not feeling so great that Trump picked a guy to run his domestic policy transition team who regularly pushes for anti-LGBT measures. Why wouldn't that cause fear?

Well then they should have changed the language of the platform to reflect that and not stated an intention to appoint scotus justices who would essentially vacate Obergefell. As for evangelical holdouts, I can think of one:Mike Pence.

My 9th grader said the gay, bi and pansexual kids at school have said they think he'll line them up and kill them all, but clearly that's outrageous. Still disturbing to hear that kind of fearmongering.

Op you can't be serious. "Pansexual" kids in your dc's school. These poor kids are what-- 14?

OP here. Yes, I know. I wish I weren't serious. And it was actually my 7th grader - we were discussing this morning and my 12 year old reminded me that it was he who had told me this.

He said a girl in his class came out to him and said he was the first person she was telling. First, that she was bi, then a month later, decided she was actually "pan." I had to look it up myself. I may not have had the best reaction to him telling me this as it was so appalling to me. Apparently the distinction for this student was that it also included that she could be welcoming to a transgender individual.
