Gender identity vote tonight, What does it mean? Are you allowed to switch teachers if they are tran

I don't believe it's a well thought-out plan, and if they don't put together good guidelines we'll end up with unintended results. Call me a jackass all you want, a lot of people are not comfortable with the idea of a transgender being in a position of authority over their kids.

PP, sincerely, I wish you and other parents who feel this way (as I do) would show up for the meeting and speak up. I am out of town but wish I could be there. This thing is being rammed though under the radar screen with very little attention to unintended consequences.

Yup. A totally rational and reasonable worry.

Exactly, just like all those people who pretended to be gay so they could get on their best friends' health insurance plans once companies extended coverage to same-sex partners. It's been a HUGE problem, am I rite?!

Yes, I can't believe how quickly they are trying to ram this through with very little input from parents or forethought as to consequences. Just think how long they did study after study on the high school start times and had options A, B, C and D! They only provided 10 slots for community input at the April meeting, and people could only speak for 3 minutes. So they had a total of 30 minutes of input from the community. There should be some guidelines in place about adequate community response time before they vote. Even if you are all for this change, don't you want a little bit more study and clarification before it is rammed through the system?

There are only 10 slots to comment this evening, and there was such a huge demand for them, that the system crashed when people went to sign up.

I'm confused. What exactly are they proposing? Allowing openly transgender people to teach?

Does this mean you are not allowed to request a different teacher if you don't feel comfortable with them teaching your kid?

I would certainly hope so.

What if your child being taught by a perv makes you uncomfortable?

Oh, well hot damn. Don't hastily NOT allow discrimination without adequate input from people who support discrimination!

Are you effing kidding me? There shouldn't even be any public input in this. It is a civil rights issue, not a debate.

You should report anyone who is sexually harassing children no matter what their gender. Where is the confusion?

Why would they give a shit what FCPS does? Their kids are in private school, along with the rich liberals kids.

I wonder if it's not mostly a bunch of conservative guys who have their panties all in a bunch over this effort to recognize civil rights. Oh, the irony.

We have to know how student and employee safety will be ensured. We have to know what our parental rights are and how it will change. It's not just about transgenders, we're all affected and have the right to have input.

+1000

+1001

I would also like to be able to request my kids not be in the same class with children whose parents are jackasses--any advice re: how to do this?

It's great how tolerant and accepting of others' views you are.

So conservatives get to switch to get away from people that they don't agree with, but liberals have to put up with conservatives?

How's that hypocrisy working out for you?

No, actually, the true hypocrites are liberals. They generally want any idea that they don't like to be outlawed, and if anyone disagrees with them, they are accused of being a bigot, a racist, a homophobe, or whatever other name they come up with. I'm tired of the lies from liberals. Every conservative I know is more accepting and tolerant of people with different beliefs, but every liberal I encounter is full of hate for anyone who disagrees with them about anything. The most arrogant, egotistical people on the damned planet.

(Well, that and the propensity for teachers to prance around in front of the school in election day holding "[Our zoned elementary] teachers for [insert Democrat candidate here]!" signs.)

Basically, the Fairfax schools are about social agenda first. They do not care if you're uncomfortable with it. If you don't like it, you can leave.

I like my Catholic school. We don't want you either. Try a conservative Christian school.

Before all of you panic, what are the chances your child ever has a transgender teacher? Have you ever known a transgender teacher? I'm extremely conservative and not the least bit worried about this. My daughter has a great teacher who I'm positive is gay. I don't care one bit because it doesn't affect his ability to teach my child and hasn't come up in class (to my knowledge).

The same way it is currently handled. If kids and employees aren't being kept safe that is a separate issue. How will allowing discrimination make them safer? It clearly won't make anyone transgender safer. No one is making you send your kids to FCPS.
