Policy 1450 to include "Gender Identity".
Does this mean you are not allowed to request a different teacher if you don't feel comfortable with them teaching your kid? http://www.fcps.edu/news/policy1450.shtml http://www.wjla.com/articles/2015/04/-gender-identity-could-be-added-to-fcps-non-discrimination-policy-113495.html |
| title got cut off but you get my point. The language doesn't cover this in the FAQ |

This may cause parents to request female teachers over males because statistically there are more MTF than FTM transitions.

I would certainly hope so. |
I wasn't aware that being transgender erased people's ability to teach, or their knowledge of their subject matter, or their years of experience, or their skills in conveying information to students effectively. What a nice lesson to teach your kids -- that a person's gender identity trumps brains, skills, interest and passion for teaching. Please, please leave FCPS over this and haul your kids to whatever private school will promise you to hire only the people with whom you agree in every single aspect of their lives. |
| I would certainly hope that if parents can request a different teacher because s/he is transgendered, that teachers be allowed to request students not be in their class because their parents are jackasses. |

I hate to say it OP, but you're going to have to suck it up and pay the tuition at Catholic school. When we lived in Fairfax, people used to question why we would even consider private school when the public school was (debatably) "best in the nation." This is why.
(Well, that and the propensity for teachers to prance around in front of the school in election day holding "[Our zoned elementary] teachers for [insert Democrat candidate here]!" signs.) Basically, the Fairfax schools are about social agenda first. They do not care if you're uncomfortable with it. If you don't like it, you can leave. |

+1001 I would also like to be able to request my kids not be in the same class with children whose parents are jackasses--any advice re: how to do this? |
It's great how tolerant and accepting of others' views you are. |
| I guess the best thing to do is show up tonight at the board meeting and find out. I don't believe it's a well thought-out plan, and if they don't put together good guidelines we'll end up with unintended results. Call me a jackass all you want, a lot of people are not comfortable with the idea of a transgender being in a position of authority over their kids. |
Okay, jackass. |
| I would be worried about a boy with bad intentions getting away with using the girls' bathroom, and lying and saying that he is "trans". |
| Unthought of policy issue: boy today, girl tomorrow. Repeat. |
