What Do You Give Boys on Graduation Day?

I would give one white or red Carnation for a boy

Some of these answers are silly. Yes... girls do get flowers at graduation. I was wondering for my son too. I may bring balloons.

I went to an all girls' Catholic school and we graduated in white dresses and carried red roses. Maybe other schools do the same?

Does this apply to elementary graduation? DD’s commencement is in two weeks. I bought her a nice dress. Didn’t think that I need to bring her anything else

Depending on where graduation is held, balloons can be a terrible idea. E.g., in APS graduations are held at Constitution Hall. Parents sit in the tiered seating. That means that balloons floating in the air above people sitting in lower-level rows will be in the line of vision of people sitting in rows behind/above. Please don't do this.

My DS1 graduated from high school 2 years ago. We brought nothing but big smiles and big hugs. Then we went out for a celebration lunch. It was a lovely day.

IMO, kids do not "graduate" from elementary school or middle school, no matter what kind of ridiculous hoopla ensues. They are promoted. No flowers or gifts necessary.

My aunt makes leis for the boys who graduate. She says they are easy to make (she learned from Pinterest) and customizes each one to reflect the grad’s college they’ll be attending. All the guys love them so much and they look so cool that the girls are starting to request them! My son still has his nearly 3 years later.

I, too, think the K, 5th grade, and 8th grade graduations are BS. However, they are taken SO seriously in this area that if you don’t at least participate with a bit of effort, your kid will stand out and be disappointed.

Learned this the hard way after 5th grade when I scoffed at their “all girls must wear a white dress” rule and sent her in a mostly white dress with a floral pattern. And I had no flowers for her afterwards. She was upset because you could see her flower pattern through the cheapo gown. Then she was upset because she was the only one in all the photos with her friends who didn’t have a little bouquet from the grocery store. Lesson learned. I did better for the 8th grade nonsense.

Who even brings balloons to graduation? Our high school also graduates at DAR, and I can't even imagine someone parading in there with balloons. Plenty of time for that at lunch/dinner afterwards, or a party.

I love that idea!! Wish I knew how to make leis!

I’m going to get a lei. They are very popular in CA.

Okay, this sounds awesome! I'm going to hit up Pinterest and see if I can learn this. I'm not at all crafty, though. Fingers crossed.
