Good for you, OP! I'm curious - what purses did you get?

POLYVORE!!!! Shop your closet for new ways to put things together. Have a few go-to outfits that you can wear whenever you don't have time to figure out what to wear. Throw the ugly stuff away...for some reason we all gravitate towards the ugly stuff in our closet (I know...I am guilty) when their is that more flattering/cute sweater right next to the ugly x,y,z...

I think I'd look better in a shorter cut, but I'm having trouble convincing my husband to let go of the long hair I'll work on that first. Make up is a great idea - I think I'll hit Sephora or something and get some tips.

As for clothes, I love the What I Wore blog - if I could look like her every day, I would feel great.

I like J Crew (even though a lot of it is flashy or cheapy these days - still some great looks). I spend a lot of time looking in Loft just because it's so cheap and sort of casual trendy, but their clothes are such terrible quality and I really need to get out of there. Any store suggestions would be great.

I'm also looking for a good mid-sized purse to carry around out to dinner or on the weekends. Something classic looking, but maybe with a bit of color.

OP, I'm sorry but short cut pretty much automatically means mom hair, so keep the long hair, just get a trendier cut. If you want GOOD makeup tips, skip Sephora and head to Blue Mercury or a department store makeup counter (just for god's sake don't go to Clinique).

Also, Lands End (someone previously suggested it) also automatically equals mom clothes, unless you're looking at their Canvas line which has some pretty cute stuff. Don't shop there. Maybe Madewell, Anthropologie, Banana Republic, and shop on Asos.com for trendier clothes.

Gap jeans are frumpy, the end. You may think you look good in them, but try on some real jeans and compare, you'll see the difference.

NP. Gap/Banana Republic/Old Navy jeans all fit me, but are momish and frumpy. I'm saving my money to buy some nice, more flattering cuts.

Yesterday I was going to meet a friend for dinner and decided I couldn't wear my sweater set that I had on from work. So, rather than wash it and return it to the drawer, I put it in the donate box. Slowly, but surely, I will get rid of my "mom" wardrobe.

I'm 33 and I think a stylish dresser. For those who need it, invest in a high waisted jeans. Nordstrom carries Joes, Paige and J Brand high waisted ones. They are worth the extra cost. For the size 4s out there, wear leggings with longer shirts. I would go to h&m for the leggings and a couple flowy, boyfriend shirts. Throw a vest or drapey cardigan on it if you need more warmth. I got turned onto cashmere sweaters lately and will never go back. The downside is that I can only afford one a season, but there are so many out there that are not "momish". Good luck and post some photos of your finds if you need opinions...

On my way to dinner but I'll post some of what I ordered soon including the purses. Anthropologie has 30% off their sale stuff, and I got some great shoes, a purse, a necklace, and some straight leg pants for cheap.

Also, I agree that short hair can look mom-y, I guess I just mean shortER. I have a long face and I don't think long long hair is doing me any favors. I had this trendy sort of in between chin and shoulders cut a few years back that I'd like to recreate. But I'm sticking with long for now and going to try not to have it in a ponytail all the time

I am a size 2-4, and this is never a good look for me because I have breasts (not huge - 32D) and usually look fat/bloated/pregnant or just like I never got out of my pajamas in the flowy shirt/leggings combination.

Do you have any links/pictures for the types of cashmere sweaters you like? Where do you buy yours? Thanks.

OP again. So jealous. Wish I had breasts! I'm a 32b-c, but they aren't much. I am totally straight up and down. I think I could actually look good in the leggings and flowy shirt look because of my body type, but I'd rather be a 2/4 WITH boobs!

Gap always skinny doesn't look momish or frumpy: they fit just fine. But then, I'm a size 4 and share clothes with my daughter. It isn't the jeans, it's the body in the jeans. You can either get in shape or spend lots of money to look like you maybe work out.
