| I don't care for the pockets on Gap always skinny jeans. Anyways, skinny jeans and leggings can pretty much be worn interchangeably so if you think you may look cute in a flowy top, definitely go to h&m and go for it. Throw on some chunky jewelry and/or scarf, too. |
I'm happy you enjoy Gap jeans. I am a size zero, and the Always Skinny jeans fit me horribly. Many people have commiserated about how the quality has declined. Feel free to disagree, but you're wrong that they automatically look good on skinny people. |
| OP (again!). Went to H&M after the kids went to bed and didn't find a single big buttin down or sweater. Did find a really cute skirt for $7 and a gorgeous $59 Cole Haan Eliza satchel at the Marshall's next door. Think I'll stop spending money now. |
| Ughh I look TERRIBLE in gap jeans and pants. I'm glad I'm not the only one! |
Gag. |
Me too. I am 5'4" and this is a HORRIBLE look for me. I need a defined waist. I also have very muscular thighs from playing competitive soccer that look like sausages in skinny jeans or leggings. I avoid those at all costs! Size 2-4 doesn't automatically mean every style looks good on you---height, body proportion, etc. factor so much into it. I am not a slave to trends--esp if they are against my body type. |

I need new makeup and have been thinking of going to a department store makeup counter. Tell me more about Blue Mercury - there is one near my office at Dupont circle.
|
Why? Because I had my kids young enough to regain my health and strength? Because I work out so I look good in damn near anything? Yes, I work full time and always have---I'm a single mom. Because my 23 year old and I share jeans, dresses, and tshirts? We are the same size--why not? I'm not old enough to be decrepit and I really don't care what people think I should wear. I have white hair and have since I was 30---why color it? No one who actually matters will judge me on that. DC is the land of the frump. If you want to look like that, have fun. |
OP, I especially agree with the bolded. Get a stylish haircut that works with your longer hair. I go to Progressions in Rockville, but that may be too much of a hike for you. Also, it's fairly expensive, but in my opinion worth it. A haircut and color person - if you need color - will work magic. For the make-up consider going to a Bobbi Brown counter at Nordstrom or another department store. |
I completely disagree that short hair automatically means mom hair. There are so many trendy hair cuts and if all she is going to do with her long hair it put it in a pony tail that says mom more than a cute short style. Have you seen Halle Berry's haircut? What about that says mom? |
| I agree. I am growing my hair out now...just for fun, but I had a cut similar to victoria Beckhams and it looked great! |

Read some fashion blogs that are aimed towards adult women in general instead of at moms. See what the trends for the season are and pick one or two that you like and try to incorporate them. I like to pick ones that I know will be around for a few seasons. Find some time to put on makeup quickly.
Here are fashion sites that I read: http://www.refinery29.com/ http://www.couturesnob.com/ http://stylebakery.com/ http://alaceyperspective.com/ (DC blog) http://somuchtosmileabout.com/ (also DC blog) I also like the wardrobe and accessories sub forums at The Purse Forum (forum.purseblog.com) |
Hi All - I'm Caitlin from How To Dress At 30 (www.howtodressat30). I put this site together as something fun for me because I love dishing out free fashion advice. Want to ask me something about how to dress your best at 30? I'd love to hear from you: http://www.howtodressat30.com/fashion-stylist?hsCtaTracking=cd02a013-59ec-4b62-973c-f7a26ff29424|7aed6106-a3b2-48b2-904f-94e27ca1beb7 |
If you think Gap jeans look good, you are NOT the person OP should be taking fashion advice from...crawl back under your bitch rock please. |
No because a 40 something should not be dressing the same as a 23 year old. You probably look a lot more ridiculous than you think, granny. |
