Agree with this. And Gap are terrible because they never fit right in the waist. I want something that will fit over some curves, hit around my belly button to avoid that horrible muffin top look, has a little stretch (but not too much) and doesn't gap in the back. Am I asking too much? |
OP here - but also straight jeans suggestions! I'm not curvy at all

Re: bags - Totokaelo has gorgeous ones. http://totokaelo.com/store/accessories/shoulder-bags
Many are quite expensive, but some are in the $300-500 price range. Like this! http://totokaelo.com/store/products/aandd/fw12/sea-duffel/black They're having a sale that starts this weekend. If you're looking for something more structured, colorful, and traditional, J Crew's bags are pretty. You might like this one: http://www.jcrew.com/womens_category/handbags/PRDOVR~89715/89715.jsp |
| OP, I can sympathize. I actually have a closet full of nice clothes that I can still fit into, but I rarely feel like dressing up in them to go to the playground/tot soccer. |
| Get in shape, that will fix the jeans problem. Gap fits me just fine: if you don't have a ginormous ass, they will look ok. |
This was a totally bitchy and unhelpful response. I am a size 8 and hardly have a "ginormous ass;" Gap jeans look like crap on me.
|
I think almost any designer brand would work just fine for you. Or skinny jeans. Ah, to be a mom and a size 4 with no curves. What a curse.

do you have any money to spend -- $500ish? I'd go to Nordstrom, set up an appt with a personal shopper and SHOP! you can get plenty of cute stuff from their Point of View department.
and i agree -- get a good haircut and highlights/color, if necessary. |
| I'm really not sure that shopping at Lands End will help. Their clothes scream mom to me.... You can pick up a few staples and occasionally something trendy, but I wouldn't build a new look around it - if you're aiming to get away from a mom look. |
| If you're a size 4 or 6, designer jeans will definitely fit you and well. They cut 24-32 (most brands) and you'll be a 28-29. I would recommend Paige if you have thinner legs, AG, Citizens of Humanity, Joe's, list goes on. But really, they make so many different styles, you will find somethin! Just hit up Nordstrom rack and for about $100 you can get some great pairs or look at Anthropology for some cute styles. They also have great fun dresses and tops and the prices are not unreasonable. Good luck! |
OP again. Thinking about hitting Anthro on my way home from work today. I am willing to put some money into this - it's time. I wish I had some curves honestly! I'm like a young boy

Everyone is different. I'm a size 8 and gap jeans look fine on me. |
+1 and I'm 42 .

i agree with splurging on some basics from modern designers. namely:
jeans blazers coats bags sunglasses shoes/boots add some scarves and fun jewelry. the rest can be basics you buy at cheaper places. |
OP again - just went on a bit of a splurge. Anthropologie, Nordstrom, and Banana Republic. Boots, ballet flats, some straight leg pants/jeans, belts, purses, necklaces. Didn't find many shirts I liked. Still need sunglasses. Thinking I'll be looking good by next week
