Nickname for Evelyn

I had a college friend whose "real" name was Evelyn but everyone called her Evie (pronounced ev-ee with a short e in the beginning). It was a great name and fit her perfectly.

I don't want to use Eve-ee but would rather use Ev-ee...sounding like the beginning of EVer with an EE sound at the end. How would you spell that?? Evy? Evie? Would those get confused for eve-ee?

Another questions, is EVE a usual nickname or shortened form of Evelyn?

You could call her vy/vie or just "V"

I have a friend named Evelyn and she goes by Evie (like heavy without the H) and I think it's a great nickname. It's pretty much her name though, as no one calls her Evelyn.

Same thing for me, friend from home name Evelyn most people call her Evie as in heavy w/o the h

Er.. thanks for the input!

I named my DD Evelyn with the intention of calling her Evy (if she was a girl-we weren't sure). One look at her and we could tell she was an Evelyn. I call her Evy or Ev on occassion but for the most part she's an Evelyn.

DD's the oldest of all the young Evelyn's I know, she's 10. I know five other Evelyns under the age of five.

I had a great aunt her name was Eavie like the way.you want to pronounce ever-er+ie.

Evelyn is a very popular name these days. My friend's daughter uses Evie (pronounced Eve-ee) and I think that's cuter than the more boring Ev-ee.

Yeah, but most people (well at least those that read) will think of Evelyn Waugh.

Evelyn Waugh's name was pronounced Eve-Lynn, not Ev-a-lyn. FYI.

And another one. A family friend uses Evie (rhymes with heavy) as a nickname. I have known a few Eves but they weren't short for anything, and the two Evies (ee-vees) I knew were nicknames/variations for the full name Eve. One friend also uses Ava as a nickname for Evelyn, so I think you have a lot of options.
