Nickname for Evelyn

Anonymous
If you were to name your child Evelyn (Ev-lin or Ev-uh-lin but NOT Eve-lin) and wanted to call her by something shorter, what would it be?

I don't want to use Eve-ee but would rather use Ev-ee...sounding like the beginning of EVer with an EE sound at the end. How would you spell that?? Evy? Evie? Would those get confused for eve-ee?

Another questions, is EVE a usual nickname or shortened form of Evelyn?

Ev-ee? Really? Like heavy without an H? People will just think you are weird for pronouncing the kid's name wrong. Just go with Eve-ee or don't use a nickname at all.

I have a friend named Evelyn and she goes by Evie (like heavy without the H) and I think it's a great nickname. It's pretty much her name though, as no one calls her Evelyn.

Almost every little Evelyn I know goes by Evie. There are a ton of them (in DC/Bethesda at least).

I'd spell it Evvie.

I don't know what 14:42 is talking about . Evie (like you described OP) is the nickname that I've heard for Evelyn.

I totally disagree. "EV-ee" is a very, very common pronunciation for the nickname of Evelyn the way you're pronouncing it ("EV-uh-lin). If you write it out, people might mispronounce it, but that's not a big deal.

I would not name my daughter Evelyn both b/c I don't like the name (at all) and because I think it's silly to name your child something you have no intention of calling them. Nicknames should develop organically.

pp, the nickname has developed naturally and I need to know how to spell it.

p.s. I'm guessing your name is something like Bertha. bye.

I've seen it spelling Evie, or Evvy and pronounced as you described, EV-ee. I think it's really cute

I don't understand how you could think eve-ee is a more appropriate nickname for Ev-lin. You're talking about pronunciation but then recommending I use a nickname that doesn't sound like the full name at all.

I am sorry but I am the original poster and I have never, ever in my life met anyone named Ev-ee. I have met Eveleyn's whose nicknames were Eve or Eve-ee, but never Ev-ee. Sounds ridiculous to me, sorry. Where do you people live? Is this the hot new name in Bethesda or something?
