What is the most extravagent vacation you have ever taken?

A week in Feenando de Noronha and a week in the Amazon forest. Priceless!

My parents and some other family got a private villa in the Dominican, with a full staff. It was a fluke - my dad got it from a charity auction. It was the most gorgeous setting I've even been in, and I'll never have a vacation that nice again.

Otherwise we don't really do vacations - typically just go stay with parents at their house for a break.

5 week honeymoon in Australia. Definitely extravagent, but also was back in the days of super-awesome exchange rates.

$25K trip to Kenya and Tanzania.

$12,000?

Sad that DC folks always think in terms of money.

I'm not from DC. I'm not even from the U.S. I was wondering because we took a ten night trip to Disney this summer and we spend so much money. I feel like we went overboard - it was prob near $12K all told (plane tickets from abroad included). I feel kind of bad about it, like we shouldn't have spent so much savings on one vacation. So I was just wondering if it is considered way overboard by others. That's all.

^^^ p.s. we spent near $1K shopping at Super Target because we do not have those types of stores. Got kids clothes/shoes, lots of stuff at very good prices - stuff to last a long time (don't do much shopping at home - little selection and high prices) so that $1K should not count towards the price of the vacation actually.

staying in 5 star hotels in major Italian cities as we traveled from the South to the North

never made it to Sicily unfortunately

I haven't done this yet, but several of my friends have rented a live-aboard barge that traveled through the wine country of France. They have bicycles, and you ride around and meet the barge for lunch and dinner and sleeping. We're there when DC is old enough to enjoy it!

For 10K is the most we've ever spent we've done it with and without kids. I feel less sickened by this kind of spend when I spend it od DH and myself alone because we really appreciate it. The kids can be just as happy in a tacky drive in RV camp so , I feel sick when I waste too much money on our family vacations.
