Why I'm not CIOing

"Ohhhh, I get it. You're a complete and total judgementaldouchebag. Good luck raising your kids, jerk!"

This sums up both sides of this thread perfectly.

Get hobbies, everyone.

OUCH! Good come back...NOT....you are still crazy!

It's more than a good comeback. I posted this in another thread, but your baby doesn't know if you are drunk or sober. All your baby knows is that they are screaming for you and you aren't helping them. Sum total of their ability to "learn." That's why it will be illegal one day -- because if letting your baby cry because you are passed out or absent is bad for the baby, then so is letting them cry because you read in a book that it was perfectly okay. Thinking the effect on your baby is somehow different because you are college educated and upper class -- THAT is what is crazy.

I have many, many friends and family who've done it and I know they love their kids, but the fact that anyone can convince themselves that doing it means love boggles my mind.

I could say tha sleeping wih your child crushed up against you and your husband is un-natural. Get off your high horse. You are the weird one.

LOL really? Co-sleeping is un-natural? Do you mind explaining this?

Sorry, forgot to ask... I always read moms here desperate because "my baby won't sleep anywhere but me" but I never heard of a mom crying because their baby will only sleep when left alone in a dark room. Have you heard of it?

Right. And people used to think they could beat the crap out of their kids to discipline them if they choose to parent that way, and now they can't. It's illegal. And they used to let their kids ride around w/o seatbelts but now they can't, because it's illegal. Same with helmets riding bikes -- our government has better things to do than legislate stupid shit like that. Wait, that's illegal, too. CIO will be too one day. I guarantee it.

I know--let's all agree to meet back here in 15 years and see if CIO is illegal. The winning side gets to wear a sparkly crown that says "I Was Right!"

OP why are you posting a response to every negative one? Give it up already...people disagree with you. And you are insane.

Omg, I'm laughing so hard! CIO has nothing to do with any of these things! You are a nut.

OP - get a life.

Everyone, do what works for your family.

I didn't do CIO -didn't need to. But, I think it is perfectly appropriate. And, those think that CIO =leaving baby in a room screaming do not know what they are talking about. That is not appropriate CIO and I know one one person who did the latter (when their child was about 14 mos. old. PS - the kids is darling and very much loves her parents).

Whether CIO is "western" or not is entirely beside the point. With many homes having 2 working parents and - in this area, esp.- parents have to sleep to function at their jobs. So, comparing "western" CIO practices to other countries that are very unlike the US is not an apt comparison.

Finally, anyone who truly thinks that Congress is going to outlaw CIO, I ask you really? They can't even do something non-controversial like balance a fucking budget. And you think they are going to intrude into this sort of personal decision? That's very precious, if you think that.

No, I'm not posting anything against "every negative one". Again, I'm talking about MY experience and why I'm not doing it. You ladies can do whatever you want with your kids. Enjoy "your" motherhood.

I am not the OP and I posted about making CIO illegal. I guarantee it will be illegal, because it is damaging to your child. It DAMAGES your child into sleeping. It does not "teach" your child to sleep at night. Neglected babies do the very same thing -- is that from "sleep training" too? Are neglected babies one step ahead of nurtured babies because they have been "trained" to sleep through the night? No. Of course not.

The government has all kinds of parental behaviors that it determines are bad for children -- so bad that if "choose" to do them to your kids, then the government takes your kids away from you. Did you not know that? Really?

...I actually feel dumber reading this thread. Thanks OP.

Funny how the pro-CIO camp only has mean, sarcastic, insulting comments and no real arguments to make.
