Penn first bc very strong in many disciplines. Chicago has a rep of being intellectual, but in my area, it's viewed as an easy ed admit for private school kids. Hopkins perceived as too grindy so most top kids don't apply, very self selecting pool. Duke is the fun/popular school of choice for many, but not necessarily viewed as top for academically prestigious, although i think it is.

California. Wharton, Columbia, Duke for Wall Street, in that order. Hopkins, Penn, Duke, Northwestern for premed, in that order. Penn, Columbia, Northwestern for engineering, in that order.

In DMV area I would say JHU, due to proximity so many apply from this area it makes it hardest to get in.

In Georgia, it’s HYP, followed by Duke/Vanderbilt/GA Tech followed by Emory/UGA/UVA/Wake. T-10 means different things in different places.

I grew up in NJ and was accepted to three of these five schools. At one I was accepted to a specialized program. I chose one. It was a very difficult decision. Some idiots questioned my decision - they showed me who they really were. I would not fault someone for choosing any of them. I have some pecking order between some of them but I am not broadcasting it because I don't feel strongly about it.

I think that people that are that deep in the weeds and obsess over things like this and USN&WR rankings are the reason the whole process is such a nightmare now and schools feel the need to obsess over rankings, do tons of yield management, etc. People need to just chill the F out.

I kind of want my kids to go to a very good but not great school to stay away from all of these sad prestige hunters. They are insufferable.
