+1, no one cares about American schools other than Harvard. H bomb just hits harder than other schools and that’s fine- does it mean Harvard is the best school in the US? Of course not. It just means it has the most cultural cache

This is true in my experience. My siblings and I have degrees from Harvard, Stanford, and JHU. In the African country that our family is from, no one has heard of JHU, and maybe a third of people at most have heard of Stanford. But everyone knows Harvard.

Because my kid went there after getting rejected by all T20s.

Interesting you said that. I do know a student who begrudgingly went to Williams after getting rejected by all Ivies and a few t20s.

Duke will take you to the highest levels and open the coveted doors.

For me, as a foreigner living in DC: Columbia clearly. It still has the ivy + nyc prestige (even though I am aware of the actual reputation among dcum crowd, it keeps that prestige halo for me)

After HYPS, the only choice is Duke. The rest are not appealing.

If America had a "flagship" school, it would be Harvard.

Duke is fine but is very different from those 4 as well as different most of the ivies. It is most similar to Northwestern.
