Scarpetta on Amazon Prime ?

The ending was so bad. Lots not explained. They clearly want a second season.

I agree with you!! She looks the same in everything exceot for the dumb wigs they put her in. Her voice and facial expressions are the same and robotic. She needs to take a seat for a bit.

She's the exec producer. So the "they" is NK.

The show's official line is that Patricia Cornwell "personally chose" NK to play Scarpetta.

NK has done a lot for women in the industry including working with tons of female directors, teaming up with other famous women, adapting/producing female-lead or driven projects (female authors and strong female characters). And NK puts her money/name/influence to these projects to get them made. That said, I don't disagree that she should take a seat every now and then. She does not need act in every project she's involved in.

They are married in the books. There were a few recent ones which parts of this episode is based on. Agree with the rest.

There are some other plot points and characters that have been changed. The casting is terrible. What a disappointment.

She and Marino are not married, preventively involved in the books. You’re thinking of Benton Wesley.

Nope. Ad of the book Autopsy they are married.

I've been posting a lot of the sarcastic comments about how bad this series is but I want to chime in to say I completely agree with you. I love so much of what NK has done and she truly promotes women. I was thrilled when I saw this series pop up. It's cruel that it is so bad. What gives? She does a lot of quality stuff and this is so less than B level.

This. JLC is playing the same character she played in the Bear. It was annoying.

Hmm. Maybe it’s because I haven’t read the books, but I rather enjoyed the first episode.
(I do find NK’s mask-like face distracting, though, especially compared to JLC who facial muscles actually move.)

Come on back and tell us how you feel after another episode.

Okay I have to know do they have the doctor, the medical examiner as a smoker?

The JLC role was so odd I thought she was only in Scarpetta's mind. Representing her inner monologue with a dead parent/sister. A plot device twist, like in The Sixth Sense, there would be a reveal with flashbacks showing she was not a real person.

I said the exact same thing to my husband in the first episode at the gravesite! It was just very odd/stilted - though I give JLC a lot of credit for her lack of vanity in her performance. She’s a jewel in Hollywood. But the character didn’t quite fit.

The same character but without the pathos. Definitely annoying.

Angelina Jolie was attached at first, so sure?

I was actually thinking NK had backed off the work (fillers anyway) and looked a lot better.

I've always had a soft spot in my heart for JLC but I think she must be anxious about acting because it was the worst case of overacting. This series was overwhelmed with bad overacting. The actor who played Benton stood out while the rest looked like bad local theater. The scene in the car where Benton and Scarpetta were arguing had such poor production quality it was clearly a faked car scene with a ridiculous huge moon that stayed in the back window the whole time. Someone explain why there were extreme meaningless closeups on their faces. I felt the same about one of the last scenes in the series where Benton and Scarpetta were having it out outside by a car and we had the rotating camera affect which was utterly weird and useless.

This was a high school drama club production.
