OP here, the data titled "EA/ED1" is the two rounds combined. That means there were 1000 admits in both the ED1 and EA rounds. Sorry if that was unclear. |
They asked everyone to convert their EA applications to ED2. Admits only a few from EA. I mean it's great if this is the correct number, but are you sure your DC got the right number? It'd be embarrassing if it turns out to be the wrong number. |
I'm almost certain, and there are a few Reddit posts from other kids that quote similar numbers. They presented the data in a confusing way so there might be some variability. |
| Wow, so the EA admit rate could plausibly be about 2.5-3% or so, right? |
Yes, and it likely is around that number. RD is probably 5% or something like that–I see more RD acceptances than EA ones. |
+1. I don’t get it, OP. This is not impressive. |
How so? Chicago ED1 has a normal acceptance rate, it’s not inflated like posters think. |
If 100 brilliant kids apply then even 50% admit rate is impressive. If out of 100 applicants , 50 are dimwits and 45 are midwits than even 5% admit rate not so impressive. Admit rate impressiveness depends on who are applying. Riffraff galore? Just let it go. |

Does anyone else hear the math teacher in their head….
“Show your work!” |
No, because some of us aren’t struggling with cognitive dissonance upon seeing these numbers. |
| If it means anything, Chicago's SAT 75th percentile is the same as that of Duke and Yale. |

"98% top 10% of their class"
Most private schools don't calculate GPA or class rank for colleges so those students are not included in this statistic. Most UChicago kids from my kids private school are definitely not top 10%. We have cum laude and those kids rarely go to UChicago. |
| Let's not forget the ED0 acceptance rate was 30%. They stated that fairly upfront at the admitted students session for the kids who got in Ed0. |
The private my oldest child attended had 6 go to Chicago last year and none were top 20% in the class. It's a choice for kids who want prestige but aren't top students. |
| Not sure what this does to dispel the notion that Chicago is where fun goes to die. |
