Is this what Sidwell families are like?

Hating from the outside – classic DCUM.

49,000 applications (SSEN, ED1, EA, ED2, RD)

98% top 10% of their class

21,000 applied EA/ED1
1000 admitted EA/ED1
5% admit rate in EA/ED1

Drumroll please…
18% admit rate in ED1

I don’t understand why you think that’s a good percentage, OP. Everyone know Chicago markets ED heavily to drive yield numbers.

Can you break down 21,000 into ED1 number and EA number please?
Thanks!

Brown ED: 16.5%
Cornell ED: 17-22%
Dartmouth ED: 17%
Northwestern ED: 17-20%
The list goes on. Do you disparage the schools above for "admitting everyone ED?"

It just shows that most people on here are lying about Chicago admitting everybody they can get to apply ED.

It’s a normal ED1 acceptance rate. Previously, some had speculated that the acceptance rate was in the 30-40 percent range, which made little sense.

Congrats!

Help me out, how do you get 18% from these numbers? There seems a missing link for the calculation.
Could you map out how you derive 18% from those numbers?
Thanks!

Probably of the overall number of students admitted

Wow. So Chicago enrolls ~1700 each year.
ED1 (and some EA) alone takes 1000? That's a lot.
How many ED0 + ED2 takes? 500?
So RD takes about 200?

> 85% are from ED rounds??

Chicago's yield rate is around 88%, so likely ~79% come from ED rounds. Not more than 85%.

Let's do some simple math.

1000 ED1 admits, assuming 18% is correct,
1000/0.18 = ~6000 ED1 applicants.

That is a huge number, more than doubling ED1 applicants at JHU (2700).
This just doesn't feel right.

Are you sure your DC didn't hear it wrong? Are you sure it's 18%? Not 28% or 38%??

Reddit mentioned a class of about 1800. Maybe OP took bad notes and thought it was 18%.
