Long may the shutdown continue

The democrats need to get their asses in gear and sign the clean cr, or be removed from office (forcibly, if need be). They are destroying the holidays for so many Americans.

It might be time to ask why the bleeding heart party that notoriously chooses "saving people" over "sensible decisions" is holding fast here.

Eight states managed to get funds onto EBT cards on Friday, just minutes before Justice Johnson issued a stay. Trump is trying to get that money back. Why is that?

Trump has always said it's the POTUS' fault if there is a shutdown. Ronald Reagan kept things going even when there was a literal air traffic controllers strike. Who is really to blame here?

100% Mike Johnson will ensure whatever airport Adelita will fly out of will be closed when/if the House is called back. She needs to have a backup plan!

That’s fine. But just understand that you’re willing to miss your flight because Senator Schumer is trying to avoid a primary.

Or that Mike Johnson doesn't want to bring the House back because he would have to swear in a certain member that was elected almost 2 months ago. We can do this all day.

No we can’t do this all day. Because the Speaker said about a thousand times the House will be brought back into session 48 hours after the Senate passes the clean CR.

That would require the House pass a clean CR. What they passed that is sitting at the senate is not a clean CR. Add to it that teh CR was supposed to be a bridge to passing a full budget bill. That bill should have been ready now for debate and passage, but since the House hasn't been in session, the bill is not ready. That is not the Dems fault.
If it's not a clean CR then you'll need to explain what's new in it. Because that's what everyone is reporting, not just Fox.

My advice to the Dems would be to come out with a public statement saying they have decided to vote for the House CR because they don't want to see Americans suffer due to reduced SNAP benefits. However, if extension of the ACA subsidies aren't in the next House bill, they will not support it, same as this time. Give them warning to pull the snap payments forward and replenish the contingency funds.

It makes the Repubs look like heels and preserves their negotiating leverage, while giving Americans a break and the Trump admin some rope to hang themselves.

None a single billionaire is even offering to pony up money for the people of the country that pads their wallets. Is Musk going to try to feed the people in his new home state of Texas? Of course not. But he happily bought an election.

Trump is on record saying that government shutdowns are the fault of whoever is POTUS. My addition to this statement is…. Rs have all three branches of gov right now. MAGA can spin this in their heads so they can sleep at night, but Americans blame Trump and the Rs for this.

Holiday destruction is nothing compared to what will happen if they do that.

The GOP clearly is fine with people starving. why else would they try to ban states from filling the SNAP gap? A gap that actually doesn't exist - the program has contingency funds that the Administration is choosing not to use.

A CR has already been passed once, months ago. And the Republicans have failed to cone up with a budget bill. Instead, all they've done is cram through the BUB, which undermines the previous budget such that the CR is no longer 'clean.'

Plus ACA renewals are *now*. It doesn't work to just wait and revisit the idea in a couple of months. By then, tons of Americans won't have health care, and the program will be damaged by the precipitous change.

And you can't trust the Republicans to follow through on anything.

Funny how the Republicans made a huge priority of making temporary tax cuts for the wealthy permanent, but they find a one year extensions of ACA subsidies to be completely objectionable.

Also I'm not taking political advice from the people who just tanked in Nov 4 elections like an atom bomb dropped in the country club pool. Nah.
