Yes, or even just arrest and detainment. Even if you eventually make it back to your family it’s pretty traumatic. My point is that people who say that they check to see if workers have green cards, are either lying or breaking the law. Even employers who are careful to follow the law will likely have employees who legal temporary status and permission to work, and that people in that category have reason to be afraid. |
100% We need them because Americans want desk jobs. |
Green card or documentation proving the lawful ability to work in the United States. Sorry. Just using short-hand. |
|
Yes, las week we got an email from a builder we'd used in Montgomery Co who said they were temporarily suspending work in DC because of ICE. A contractor who was legal had been detained and it spooked everyone.
Can you ask them if they can refund you the portion to have you handle it with another contractor? |
| Call Built by Bennet for the siding. Once you have an estimate, decide how to move forward. |
Sure is. I wonder who is enforcing the law. oh..... |
It's really happening. Our roofer had one of his workers picked up by ICE and the general contractor told us that they have stopped sending their crews to D.C. |
Using green card as a short hand in a conversation about what kinds of documentation keeps you safe from ICE is bizarrely ignorant. |
|
Time to arrest and charge these "builders" and roofer agencies who have been hiring and exploiting illegals.
They need to be rounded up and given harsher penalties than the illegals themselves, as they are the real problem. |
All these places are basically admitting in writing and other ways that they have been breaking the law. DOJ will likely be looking at them soon. They are screwed now. |
| Is the company refunding your money? |
|
They are detaining and arresting anyone who looks Latino and does the kinds of jobs they think undocumented people do. It is not relevant if they have “documentation.” They have detained US citizens.
It’s not crazy to suspend your activities in DC because you don’t want to run the risk of your workers spending one minute in ICE detention. |
| Doesnt DC DLCP have a scheme to get reimbursed when a contractor doesn't finish a job and you already paid them? Maryland has it, called MHIC. |
Please don't use the racial slur Latino. Hispanic is preferrable for a blanket term. Or Mexican or Peruvian or Cuban, etc. |
Nobody cares about your lame politics. This is a non issue outside of DC. Had my roof replaced in Northern VA in about 2 weeks, no problema. This is the way it goes if you are here illegally. |
