You live in bizarro world.

I know you won't read that article, but FL businesses (construction, farms) have suffered after FL passed stringent immigration rules.

Good. They deserve to suffer if they were exploiting illegals like that.

It's not just the businesses. Floridians suffer, too. A lot of immigrants are involved in the cleanup and rebuild after hurricanes.

Hurricane season is bout over. It's all good.
Any places exploiting illegals during natural disasters needs to be shut down and fined and the owners/hiring agents imprisoned for labor exploitation.

No, it goes to November, but there's always next year.

I'm not saying I'm pro illegal immigration, but the way Trump's ICE is going about it is making even legal workers afraid to go to work. That hurts everyone.

Find a reputable place that doesn't hire illegals.

They all do. We gut-renovated our house in Bethesda with highly-recommended companies. The only company who did not have undocumented workers doing the actual work were a father and stepson duo who pruned our trees. It was just the two of them.

Also, I'd like to note that some of our best, most professional and responsible workers were very probably of the undocumented variety.
These people deserve all the perks of citizenship. They're salt of the earth type people. It's disgusting to treat them the way America is treating them now. We need to clear the USCIS backlog and just hand out citizenship to anyone who has lived here for some time and who doesn't have a criminal record. And only then can we build a wall, close the border, be a lot more vigilant with visa overstays, and make entry a lot harder for others. But it's inhumane to treat hardworking, intelligent individuals who have been here for years, paying taxes and all, as if they had never been of value whatsoever.

Our current reno is also being impacted by labor shortages due to ICE.

Good, that gets rid of the neurotics. Don't want those types doing important work anyway. Fire them.

You're really dumb, and your (probably white) privilege is showing.

So now you are just being racist. You probably wouldn't consider me white if you are racist.

It is if people are offended by it. It's certainly derogatory to most. You are just out of touch.

Which people? Are you in the DC area? Both 1st and 2nd gen people here overwhelmingly refer to themselves as Latino/Latina.

You’re reminding me of the liberal white people who decided the terms Latino/Latina were sexist and have been insisting on saying LatinX

My friend hasn't been able to get her leaking roof in Columbia Heights replaced for over a month now. I talked to a contractor at my mom's and he said they only did the outdoor job because they've worked with her for decades and it's in the back of a house with a driveway to hide their truck. His cousin who lives in DC has been picked up repeatedly and threatened despite being here legally. People are swapping tips on WhatsApp about safe roads and areas like their life depends on it, because it does. Do you not get it? It doesn't matter if you have papers, they are taking people who are brown and speak Spanish. People are reacting accordingly.

Nobody cares about your lame politics. This is a non issue outside of DC. Had my roof replaced in Northern VA in about 2 weeks, no problema. This is the way it goes if you are here illegally.

No one cares about your uneducated stupid beliefs. The reason it was "no problema" wasn't because you had "legals" replacing your roof. Drumpf is targeting DC for being liberal and black. Geez, you're an idiot.

Having work done on my house in MD near DC. It's taken twice as long as anticipated because folks legally permitted to work here in the US keep getting detained. One worker was sent to Texas. When they figured out he was legal, they kicked him out of the facility in TX with no phone and no money and he had to figure out how to get back to Maryland. That extends project timelines.

Incompetent workers who don't have their ducks in a row shouldn't even be hired. Fire them.

Everyone that works for me has a work authorization, a green card or are natural born citizens however they are all brown and will no longer go to DC.

The ice agents can be brutal and with any large organization there are innocent victims of the chaos.
Everyone who works for me remembers another employee who was swept up a few years ago when ice arrived to serve a warrant at an apartment, the employee was born at Inova Fairfax, went to Stonewall in Manassas yet was held in detention for two weeks because the arresting agents did not believe or chose not to believe his credentials. He was locked in a nightmare while trying to contact family, or anyone who could get his birth certificate while locked in a chain-link cage in Gainesville. He was eventually let go without so much as a nod or an apology.
Imagine being removed from your life for three days let alone two weeks, imagine how long it would take to clean up the wreckage, that’s why brown people don’t want to go to DC. Your contractor isn’t playing games his men simply won’t go and I don’t blame them.
