Ladies 55+- Are any of you really sleeping 7 hours?

Anonymous
I’m in my late 40s but sleep 6-7 hours a night. Am really aiming for 7-8. Temperature is key for me, if the room is too warm (AC over 70 on our thermostat) I don’t sleep well.

I'm 52 and had my kids at 36 and 39. The last time I slept 8 hours straight through was maybe age 42? I still sleep well but not continuously because I have to pee. Used to be 1x a night so I'd sleep maybe 4 hrs + 4 hrs I'd go straight back to sleep. But now at 52, I find some night I pee 2-4x a night and it sucks! I'm exhausted on the toilet and I go back to sleep but just keep getting up to pee. I rarely drink and rarely take caffeine. But I don't exercise much and I'm def peri menopause, a bit overweight and snore. So it's likely a combo that's making me awake. I think that it's something most women experience OP.

Consider hormone therapy. Even vaginal estradiol cream might help with the peeing.

(Also check your blood sugar just in case)

I’m 56 and sleep 8 hours on average. I definitely sleep better on nights I eat dinner early and have no alcohol.

I'm 56 and used to get 9+ hours a night but lately I've been going to bed by 9pm and waking up at 3:30am. Can't get back to sleep so I'm up for the day. Some nights I'm up at 2:30am and can't get back to sleep (I'm usually up at 4:30am to get ready for work). I'm exhausted by the time I get home and sometimes fall asleep early (like 8pm early); I'm still awake at 3:30am. I consider it sleeping in if I make it to 4:15am. No idea why this is, and hoping it will even out once school starts back up again in a week.

Alcohol is the WORST for midlife sleep. These days I can barely drink a glass of wine early in the evening without it affecting sleep.

If you do, what is your secret?

That's incredibly unhealthy and makes 0 sense 4-6 max being 5?

It's a priority like anything else in life, and one I make sure doesn't get pushed aside lightly.

NP. It’s not about not prioritizing sleep, it’s that my body doesn’t let me sleep through the night. I wake up around 3 and lie awake for a couple of hours, then get back to fitful, restless sleep. Have tried everything, including HRT. It’s just how perimenopause is hitting my body.

I'm 52 and lack of sleep is my biggest health issue. I have tried everything: meditation, magnesium, CBD, low lights, a nightly bath/routine, no caffeine, daily exercise, daily sunshine, etc. Nothing works for me. I can fall asleep, I just don't stay asleep. I am so tired.

I think my issue is stress and until my teens are out of the house (12th and 9th grade now) I just don't see that changing. Both are a lot of work, the situation is what it is. But I am so tired.

Xanax
Benadryl
Sleeping tablets

Sounds like you need a CPAP. You can be thin and still need one, you are aware.

I'm 64 and get 8 to 9 hours. Sleep got much better since I stopped drinking. Exercise helps but the best thing for sleep is retiring!!!
