Eggs vs oatmeal for breakfast

I recommend starting your day as I do: 1 glass of cool water, then 1 cup of black coffee, then go to the gym for an hour, have a green juice, then lunch (could be one of your above meals) at 11am. I'm 5'6" and 105lbs.

If you're not trolling, you're severely underweight.

There's nothing wrong with 2 eggs and toast as one meal, and then other meals with more fiber and vegetables. And no, 2 eggs are not too many for one person or for healthy cholesterol - I eat like that and my bloodwork is great.

OP, weight loss meals have to be sustainable long-term or you will yo-yo. If you don't plan to subsist on coffee and green juice forever (ugh) then don't try to lose weight that way. Just eat sensible meals and exercise. It will be slow going but it will stick.

Meh, food nutrition constantly changes. People should just use common sense.

Common sense is that 2 eggs are too many. Have fun taking a statin.

There are egg whites too. I don’t buy into the statins are the devil philosophy that’s prevalent on these boards.

Ignore her. We don’t need advice from someone with an eating disorder.

But if oatmeal would help me lose these last 5-10lbs, I’d switch to that every day. And if eggs are the better choice, I’ll try to wake earlier.

No one can answer this without knowing what else you eat in a day, what your age/size is, what your activity level is, etc. You could lose weight eating a McDonald's breakfast every day.

That has been debunked like a million times. It’s just not true.

Scrambled eggs, no cheese, no toast. Avocado on the side.

Agree with the philosophy of- whichever keeps you satiated longer will likely help you lose weight more easily. If they are the same for you- definitely alternate for variety’s sake. The key to weight loss is the ability to consistently eat healthy/make good choices over the long term. That way you can choose when you want to indulge with “more decadent treats” as opposed to snacking on the convenient/easy access high calorie foods because you are so hungry…..

OP here. I’m 5’0”, 120 lbs, 40 years old. I was 105 before kids. This spring, I dropped from 125 to 115 unintentionally because weaning my youngest child caused me to lose my appetite. After my hormones went back to normal, I went back up to 120. I strength train a few days a week. In the past month, I’ve started to jog 30 minutes a day 5 days a week. Before that, I was walking an hour a day.

My lunch and dinner are salad 50% of the time but the other 50% varies, so that’s why I asked about breakfast. It’s the easiest thing to change on a routine basis.

Thanks for all the ideas! I used to cook eggs with spinach and can easily add that back in- not sure why I stopped! And beans are a great suggestion too.

OP here. Forgot to mention that when I was 105, I was running marathons. I don’t have that kind of time now. At times when I was exercising just 30-60 minutes a day pre-kids, I was more like 110 or 115 so that’s why I chose it as my goal weight.

I believe that variety is most important, so I wouldn't choose either one as a daily breakfast. Mix it up between the two. If routines help (I get that!), switch it off from one week to the next - have the eggs every morning for a week, then oatmeal every morning the next week. Both options are healthy and would benefit your diet.

+1 definitely alternate, maybe with some other items as well.

Eggs, using egg whites sometimes.

You are underweight and your diet explains why.
No thank you.

You might do better to eat more protein v. mostly salads twice a day. Or incorporate weights to build muscle to burn calories faster. You're not that much overweight and women really don't have to maintain their pre-giving birth weight all their lives. You're 40. You've had children. Your hormones change.

So definitely eggs. If you like savory egg dishes, it’s such an easy way to sneak in more vegetables, especially since breakfast rarely includes them.

Are there sweet egg dishes?
