Camp Mystic expanded on FEMA-designated floodplain, refused to buy insurance, had 100-year flood at age 99

Texas lets its citizens down again and again. Its electricity grid caused people to die during a cold snap. The Ulvade police dep't allowed children and teachers to die rather than put themselves in harm's way. Money is misspent rather than ensure the public's safety during a flash flood. Too often red states forget that an important purpose of government is to protect and promote the general welfare.
And just as they've forgotten the purpose of government, they've lost the purpose of Christianity. Non-evangelical, non-Southern-type Christians follow the example of Jesus rather than believe in blind obedience to a religion/religious leaders. There are many Christians that believe the Republican Party reflects the opposite of our beliefs.

+1 It's a very liberal forum.

Every liberal I know is more Christ-like than MAGA leaders and their cult. My priest agrees.

I thought liberals were Godless communists?

You just gotta show your judgmental self when it comes to southerners; and just FYI, you're showing more than a little hubris in thinking you get to judge who's really Christian. You're not God.

Prove it. I am liberal and I am agnostic, but I believe in helping my fellow man. I don't need a tax cut. I make $900k a year, yet, I will get more money instead of helping people on Medicaid. Make that make sense from all of the "evangelicals" in Congress.

This was no accident. For decades, Camp Mystic was designated at high risk for 100 years flood.

The owners pressured FEMA to remove the designation so they could cheap out on insurance payments hide the danger from the children their reckless negligence killed.

(Obama's FEMA let them do it, and Trump's FEMA doubled down.)

That 100-year flood game at age 99 for the camp.

They knew all along.

Why? Did they put faith in their interventionist Christian God to protect them? Did they believe that dying in a natural disaster is good because it brings people to Heaven? Or are they just greedy people who care more for money than life?

Only if you don’t understand statistics or meteorology.

Yeah, that person PP doesn't understand the terminology. A 100 year flood has a 1% chance of occurring in any given year. It can happen again next year.

In my area of engineering we regularly design now for 200 year floods, in conjunction with regular loads, in addition to considering 500 year floods. So a 100 year flood is not some kind of anomaly.

Depends on your definition of liberal...he didn't say to keep on sinning or to judge others.

If you grew up in a very religious southern household, this would not surprise you.

I will not trauma-dump, but the parents' attitudes isn't surprising. The attitudes of the camp owners isn't surprising either.

Innocent kids paid the price for adult ignorance and arrogance, which is a tale as old as time.
