Tracking has been a discussion in education for DECADES! It has nothing to do with the current DEI discussion. My mom was a teacher for 38 years and it was a topic 38 years ago.

Dumbing down the curriculum because "diverse" students can't handle the subject matter has been around a long time

Jeannie Oakes asked for it to to be formalized across the country and it was under the umbrella of DEI. Randi Weingarten had more power than Miguel Cardona ever did.

The progressives have completed their rot.

You think you can just run away from progressive ideas now?? This is gonna be uber inconvenient for you: you can't.

Posts like this and then posts that we are pushing kids too hard, overschedule them, push too hard for taking Algebra I in 6th grade. Narrative seems to change for convenience.

Oh and every kid takes like 9 APs just for state school admission.

it's a shame that the good DEI has been swept away along with all the shady stuff like BLM, etc.

What is the difference between disabilities and people of color in terms of what’s acceptable assistance? Neither group can control their disability/color. Both groups are traditionally discriminated against.

I think you meant "historically" - there's no "tradition" of discriminating based on disability or skin color. Regardless, focusing on merit alone (rather than discriminating to fix historical injustices) should solve for any discrimination going forward.

Dude, if we focused on merit alone, president, VP and the entire cabinet would not be where they are now. We should fight the real DEI, under which undeserving white people (mostly white men actually) manage to get in front of the line.

This is a silly, and racist, conclusion. Just as racist as saying DEI puts undeserving African, Latin, Asian, and Middle Eastern men and women in the front of the line.

What was wrong with what they said. No one in the cabinet is qualified. Hegseth? Kristy? Linda McMahon with didn't know the different between AI and A1 steak sauce?

LOL

You are unbelievably ignorant and gullible or you are a complete a-hole. Which is it?

the coffee shop that employs people with disabilities seems like a noble enterprise, but BLM was exposed as a con where the founders made off with millions of dollars - that was my point.

BLM is one organization. It is not now nor has it ever been the entirety of DEI. Heck it wasn’t even the main thing.

Agree, it was never the "thing" - smearing DEI while invoking BLM is just a contorted right wing talking point from people who don't know better (but think they do).

BLM was barely even an organization. It had some "founders" some of whom like Patrice Cuillors were accused of grifting, but there was never any central BLM organization "in charge" or doing much coordinating.

Meanwhile on the right there has also been a ton of grifting and cons from organizations like Club for Growth, FreedomWorks, Tea Party Patriots and others who were mostly just in it for the money. Not to mention what the NRA and other right wing organizations turned into.

So I don't even get what the PP's point is.

Please cite the moment that "historical"/"Traditional" discrimination stopped.

And you can admit that the message of BLM was important and valid and just be mad at the corrupt people at the top for their dishonesty. And when the corruption came to light, support faded drastically. The message was not the problem and it DID make a difference in many cities with police reform and charges for abuse.

Of course now that Trump (who was prosecuted for running a fraudulent charity) is our president, corrupt, abusive police feel they can be as fascist as they want. They feel untouchable. So the progress was, unfortunately , temporary.

I have a friend who worked as a civil rights advocate and now tries to as a retiree. She has a long history of filing federal complaints (DoE, HHS) for people, but I told her now they're only going to want to hear about white people without disabilities being discriminated against.

BLM is a movement and a slogan and has never been a single, centralized organization. Propublica 990 database has 43 individual organizations with the Black Lives Matter name. A lawsuit was filed against Black Lives Matter Global Foundation but was dismissed. A guy in Ohio created a BLM Atlanta page and used it to bilk donors of money they thought was going to the organization. That's the only reports I was able to find (plus some kind of lawsuit involving a UK BLM group).

Sorry, tracking in education existed when I was growing up, graduated in 1972 before 504, before Title IX, before pretty much anything. It existed decades before that--kids sorted into academic vs industrial education and so forth.

Disabled customers or people are covered by disability laws. Not “DEI.”

Invisible disabilities get trickier but are still not DEI.
