I recall all three trying to lower health care costs and Republicans fighting them at every step. Blame the GOP for keeping costs high to profit their corporate interests. This EO is a shakedown of big Pharma, nothing more. Let’s see what Pfizer, Merck, etc give Trump’s “library” to prevent any actual cost controls from becoming effective. |
It’s hilarious that had Kamala been elected and she hatched an identical plan to lower drug prices, DCUM posters would be hailing her as The Second Coming.
But Trump does it? “hE’s InTeRfErInG wItH ThE fReE mArKEt!!!!” So predictable. So tiresome. |
How is this different than the Biden plan he cancelled? |
Agreed. |
One difference is that it was enacted through legislation instead of an EO that everybody knows will get overturned. |
What's predictable & tiresome is Trump's willingness to say or do anything to get him what he wants. A man with no principals or morals. No allegiance to anything but what will benefit him. All the MAGA denying this is some form of socialism are simply looking out for what will benefit them. Don't hold your collective breath waiting for another empty promise to be deviered. |
Even a stopped clock is right twice a day. |
LOL, no it wasn't the same plan or approach, but either way, you all call democrats socialists and communists when it is your authoritiarian leader who takes open bribes and is now trying to set market prices - you know, socialism. |
Came here to say this. |
Trump only lies when he opens his mouth. Believe it only when your prescription cost $5.00 as opposed to &500! Trump only cares about business and doesn't give a hoot or a holler about people. |
That’s actually what should happen. Others should pay more and we pay less. As it currently works, Americans are subsidizing cheaper prices in other counties. If drug companies raise prices too high then foreign counties will ignore their patent rights and produce the drugs for themselves. So there is a balancing mechanism. |
Trump said he would lower drug prices in 2016. What happened next was that instead of lowering the prices he gave the pharma companies a tax break. So, I'll believe it when I see it. |
I hope the next Democratic president rules only through EOs. And I don't want to hear sh!t from the GOP about it.
The Dems have been trying to do this for ages but never could. Why couldn't they? Because the Republicans in either the House or Senate always blocked it. If Trump wanted a real win, he'd have someone introduce it as a bill to be voted on through proper procedure. The Republicans have full control, so they should be able to get a quick and easy pass. But guess what? He can't do that because it won't pass. And why won't it pass? Because so many GOP members take big pharma money. Shoot, these fools can't even get their own party members on board to pass budgets and resolutions. Anyway, watch this only lower the drug prices back to where they were before he took office. Because as someone who picks up her elderly parents meds (they are both on Medicare + supplemental insurance), their costs went up like 2 weeks after he took office and rescinded Biden's lower medication prices. One med of my dad's that was $2 for a 30-day supply went up to $18, which doesn't seem like a lot unless you're a senior with a budget. Going from $24/yr to $216/yr is a big cost for the elderly. |
He hasn't done anything yet. It's going to take a lot more than an EO. I will applaud him if he manages to bring the cost of medication down, but I am not holding my breath given the incompetence of his administration. |
Competition. They’d get away with it for a few years while another company ramps up but after that the first company would be locked out of the market. |
