Who are you voting for in the Dem primary for mayor?

Everything is thru the lens of race. Academics do not matter, the bar is so low. If you are for advanced learning that is shamed. Just voted in my CEC election and struggled to find a candidate who even mentioned academics. The whole thing is sad and has us questioning our choice to live here.

Where do you live? I definitely see some of this but not a ton. I was concerned with this at my child's middle school but then when they took the Regents, SHSAT and ISEE they did really well, so clearly they were learning something. That being said, we turned down a good SHSAT placement (i.e. not Stuy and not Brooklyn Latin) and a decent Gen Ed HS placement for private for a number of reasons, including wanting to be out of the public school system.

Maybe I am just watching the wrong shows and visiting the wrong web sites but I am amazed that I have seen zero advertising for the upcoming primary. It is in less than two months. What is everyone else seeing?

Cuomo on youtube and youtube music, all the time now.

Mamdani on reddit.

Any updates? What’s this Mamdani like? I heard an interview where he explained how he plans to raise money for his goals. Ok. And I’ll probably get attacked for this, but I don’t love Cuomo’s AIPAC connection. Enough already with the interference with US elections.

I don’t think anyone else has a chance.

Mamdani is also a rich nepo baby. His mom is the film director Mira Nair. His policies are pie-in-the-sky. He is not a serious person. Don't like Cuomo either, for other reasons. So depressing. And zero moderate Republicans as in past.

I’m disappointed that Kathryn Garcia didn’t try again - she came so close last time.

Agree about Mamdani. He is kind of scary - amazing he has gotten so much traction. Not sure how he will pay for all of his crazy ideas. Kind of culty.

Agree about Garcia - she would have been great. This is not a good situation.

Walden is a decent independent but has no chance. Also like Tilson a lot but he also has no chance.

NYC is doomed. Hopefully we can tread water for four years and Tisch will run.

Stringer's ads are truly awful. He is embarrassing himself. Smart guy but he needs to give it a rest. And I say this as one who comes from a family full of nebbishy Jews like him - I love my family members but wouldn't want them as mayor.

Mamdani’s fine, he’s a young smart guy who’ll hire other young smart people, his plans will get whittled down in practice but lord knows we need more Democrats willing to push the envelope even if they don’t get everything they want right away. He’s a proud Bronx Science alum and I don’t believe he’s actually going to do anything to destroy the specialized high schools.

That being said, I’ll probably rank him third after Lander and Adams, because I want to block Cuomo but I’d rather have one of them. But Cuomo would be 10x as much of a disaster for NYC as even the worst case version of Mamdani.

There is in fact no doubt who will win no matter who people on here like and that is Cuomo. He could harrass someone on live TV and win by 15 points.

Polling is getting a lot closer, and a lot of endorsements still pending - I wouldn’t count on Cuomo winning at all, certainly not to the point of not even trying to beat him.

Sliwa is moderate. Plus, he’d make NYC the safest city in America.

Sliwa is a nut job. He actually has some decent ideas, but he has plenty of others that are bonkers.

Mamdani would be deBlasio part two. Which we don't need (other than universal pre-k). Trump would steamroll him.

Mamdani is also anti-Israel. I don't think it is the job of the mayor NY to opine on Israel, but being anti-Israel is not a good look.

I'm going to hold my nose and vote for Cuomo (perhaps with Tilson ahead of him). Then I will do a lot of research on Walden though I don't think he has a chance

Mamdani is not anti-Israel, he’s explicitly affirmed Israel’s right to exist, just not as an apartheid state. If you want Israel as an ethnostate then you need to propose a path to that that doesn’t entail crimes against humanity, and that acknowledges that the current two-state solution is utterly unworkable in practice; just saying there ought to be a Jewish homeland and refusing to grapple with the humanitarian consequences of that is a non-answer.

Mamdani's momentum is getting truly scary. He is pulling the wool over everyone's eyes.
