Who are you voting for in the Dem primary for mayor?

It's a shame that "moderates" coalesced around somebody as shitty and toxic as Cuomo, then

I think coalesced is the wrong word. Settled is more appropriate. Most people are not happy about him. But there really isn't a better option. I wish Garcia or Tisch would have run. This election would have been really fascinating if Cuomo hadn't run. Then there would have been coalescing. I guess for Lander? Not clear.

It's all about making a scene to get attention. I'm not even listing him.

He's a strong second in the polls, and not without good reason - if you're looking for a candidate who's making a scene to get attention that would be Jessica Ramos.

This race is really not getting a lot of attention. I think turnout will be really low. There are also some other ones like borough president (which is largely ceremonial, but still matters).

I like Cuomo. I thought the SH claims were a nothing burger.

But lying about the number of people dying from coronavirus in nursing homes during the pandemic isn't. There's a public nursing home in my neighborhood. The poor people stuck inside it during the pandemic would put posters up in the window every day with the number of people who had died that day. Then we'd see the official report for our zip code saying the number of deaths. Once or twice you figured it was just an error. After a while, when the daily report for our zip code sad zero and the posters said 4 or some such number, it became apparent that the public nursing home deaths were not being reported in the daily totals.

I thought Cuomo did a great job during the pandemic until that happened.

Fair point. So who do you prefer?

He’s a proud Bronx Science alum and I don’t believe he’s actually going to do anything to destroy the specialized high schools.

That being said, I’ll probably rank him third after Lander and Adams, because I want to block Cuomo but I’d rather have one of them. But Cuomo would be 10x as much of a disaster for NYC as even the worst case version of Mamdani.

There is in fact no doubt who will win no matter who people on here like and that is Cuomo. He could harrass someone on live TV and win by 15 points.

He absolutely will. DeBlasio tried to destroy the SHS while his son attended Brooklyn Tech.

Mamdani is a worse DeBlasio. Which is the last thing this city needs.

Trump continues to suck all the air out of the room so this election is getting zero attention. Having the primary (which is effectively the election) a few months after the presidential election really hurts NYC.

The De Blasio analog in this election is Brad Lander; progressive/socialist affiliations, nonprofit -> city council -> citywide elected seat -> mayoral run, lot of similarity in political style...

Mamdani is his own thing; if you're looking for an analog among NYC mayors, "progressive socialist legislator who tangles with party leadership" + "multilingual second-gen immigrant from a disfavored group with ties to other underrepresented communities" adds up to the guy we named an airport after.

Not a horrible comparison but I think Lander is to the right of DeBlasio. Mamdani might be to the left.

Some of the commercials have been quite entertaining. Lander on the Cyclone. Stringer calling Trump a schmuck. Doesn't really influence my voting much.

Were you in NY when that happened? Genuinely curious what Cuomo was supposed to do with those patients?
