Should a coach travel on a family’s private plane?

Anonymous
Huh? When Kobe Bryant died in the copter crash, there were several coaches and other players parents etc who were hitching a ride with him, no?

The coach can travel on a family's private plane. Why not?

No. Inappropriate.

Yes. Perfectly appropriate.

Totally appropriate.

I think it’s the sham RFP and overly close relationship between coach and team rep/pool board that makes it seem icky.

The evolution of this thread went from maybe inappropriate to safe sport violation to not inappropriate to icky. I was worried for a minute we would miss a reference to Machine losing a competitive bid, but you found a way to connect it to a plane ride. So much hostility.

You can find a list of all privately owned planes by residents of any state and county here:

What county are we looking under?

None of these fools have a private plane. They are not that well off.

They probably buy hours or have a split, that’s not uncommon.

Mind your business OP.

Coaches should avoid having athletes as their favorites. They should also avoid creating a
situation that could be perceived as them having favorites.

Gift-giving, providing special favors or showing favoritism to individual athletes is strongly
discouraged.

This is a piece of safe sport I think is narrow and short sighted. There are situations, especially when a club coach also has swimmers/families at summer swim where they are like family. I think there is a difference between a coach who is a creep and coach who grew up two doors down and is a close family friend.

Got it, like Larry Nassar and his close relationship with families

They might be able to get away with it once, but when the coach accepts other favors and perks, the rest of the team will always resent the relationship.

What kind of favoritism are you envisioning? Swimming is entirely time based.

Correct, but coaching matters and favoritism can be shown by coaching/paying attention too some kids more than others during practice.
