% males in sports at CMC is 49.5%

You’re missing the 4 other colleges attached to its hip.

Yes, Claremont colleges run sports together. Because they share athletic teams, the % athletes is actually lower than NESCAC schools.

I thought the schools were divided into two teams...at least for baseball, there are two separate teams.

but okay w the rest:
Males in athletics
Pomona: 307/769
Pitzer 307/484
Scripps NA
Harvey Mudd NA

The data is bad for these unique schools because the denominators are all off. You think it is coincidence that the 2 schools you provided data for have the exact same numerator?

nope. CMC runs own sports. Pomona and Pitzer share teams.

CMC does not:https://cmsathletics.org/sports/2024/5/15/about-CMS-mission-index.aspx

You should try to get good data on placement of Georgetown kids that aren't in the business program.

Williams has good placement and you know you aren't competing against kids with Finance or Accounting or other practical majors.

I don't have a dog in this fight, but I think this must include intermural and club sports, right? For example, only 20% of Pomona students play varsity sports, whereas the number above suggests 40%. https://www.pomona.edu/about/fact-sheet#:~:text=Athletics%3A,in%20club%20and%20intramural%20sports

You can't swing a cat on The Street without hitting a Bucknell grad, and they love to help other Bucknellians start their careers. It's one of the most fiercely loyal alumni networks of any school in the country.

Lol. +1. If you want a middle office or back office role at a middle market investment bank in a regional office like Charlotte or Salt Lake City, Bucknell is a great choice! They’ll never let you near anything that could be considered investing, but you’ll have a solid middle class salary to invest with on your own time.

I would spend more time focusing on differences in size, location, D1 sports (basketball is of course popular at Georgetown), weather, rural/city, etc.

They are opposites on many different attributes.

That denominator is also missing a whole 1000 students for Pomona. The colleges aren't this small.

Well, 20% of Williams students have a first major in Econ; this does not even include double majors. Moreover, athletes are more likely to major in Econ than NARPs. https://nces.ed.gov/collegenavigator/?q=Williams&s=all&id=168342#programs

CMC shares its teams with Mudd and Scripps. But CMC fields a much larger percentage of athletes than the other two. https://cmsathletics.org/sports/2024/5/15/about-CMS-mission-index.aspx

That's fine...but Econ doesn't provide any practical skills for a job in finance...it is a quantitative major which is always good.

Anonymous wrote:So if they’re both popular schools at your kid’s high school and you’re so convinced that he’s gonna get in, why exactly do you feel the need to crowdsource here with a bunch of anonymity strangers? Surely your son and his guidance counselor already know plenty about both schools, since they’re so “popular,” and he doesn’t need you doing this

The OP was more interested in career placement advice than admissions advice.

City vs middle of nowhere

If he’s seriously s about philosophy I’d look at departmental reqs.

Georgetown seems to have an enormous number of core distribution requirements compared to Williams. These are a huge pain to fulfill in my experience with my older child. It sounds good until you have to build your whole semester’s schedule around a certain class you have little interest in taking.
