When you have so many test optional students plus a low 25%, OP don't worry about your child's teat scores. Michigan doean't look for high stats.

Fall 2023 Undergraduate Class Profile

3.76 average GPA
30 average ACT
1346 average SAT
202 Incoming First-Year Undergraduate Students
26.3% Michigan Residents
65.8% Out-of-State Students
26 States & DC Represented
7.9% International Students
Hailing from Canada, China and South Korea
11.8% First-Generation College Students

Talk about cherry picking stats to suit your agenda. You picked the one school at Michigan where talent is as important as a high GPA. The vast majority of applicants to any school would never make it into The School of Music, Theater, and Dance.

The % OOS is also wildly biased compared to overall undergrad.

Only 52% of enrolled freshmen even bothered to submit an SAT score.

Plus, the fact that 25% of those who did and were admitted scored below 1350, being a low scorer is fine.

Check out college confidential. Many, many kids with perfect grades and 1500+ SATs rejected/waitlisted.

My kid is struggling with that Ross application. This year it is direct admit. Anyone have wisdom to share?

My kid got in last year UMich LSA OOS. I’m an alum but that doesn’t help with admissions any more. Kid was 4.4 national merit commended. EC weak but did participate. Did not get into CS but doing STEM anyhow. He is there now and doing well!

It’s definitely a school where kid needs to navigate bureaucracy and work with his peers to overcome housing, research, and class registration challenges.

Instead of relying on anecdotal evidence, Michigan itself tells you that many, many, many more get in with SATs below 1350. Some 25% of all students have below a 1350. Only 52% of enrolled freshmen even submitted SAT scores.

I guess you can trust random strangers on the internet, or the university itself...

What does this mean?

My kid is applying this year. Will have a 4.0 UW if they recalculate as this forum suggests (his grades are all A-, A and A+). 1560 SAT although it seems like they don't care much about SATs? DH is a non-active alum. Not sure that matters either.
He really prefers Ross but got scared off by the low odds.

52% submitted SAT
18% submitted ACT
70% submitted test scores

100-70 = 30% test optional (many athletes?)

You conveniently forgot to add the 18% submitting ACT

About 10-15% submit both

35 ACT, 4.0 UW at rigorous, esteemed private. Nationally ranked in one of her multiple EC, several significant leadership positions, awesome essay, and recs will be stellar. And I am an alum. We don't consider this a safety bc kid we know got admit to Harvard and denied at UMich.

LSA, applying to a major with very few students
in-laws are very active alumni

Michigan doesn’t consider legacy now.
