Wow....stats seem low but GL!

What??? 25% of Michigan's freshmen class have below a 1300. And there are even more who did not even submit an SAT.

That is perfectly in-line. Not sure what planet you are on thinking that you need a high SAT/ACT to get into Michigan.

those kids are mostly in-state. lower threshold for scores in-state....

I mean, this is DCUM, isn't it? I assume you don't live in Michigan and are OOS.

Yes, high stats needed.

Current kid has 1600 SAT and 4.00 GPA, all weighted classes except gym. Interesting ECs/volunteer work. Some leadership.

Current kid will be aiming for top 10 I assume?

Yes, but Michigan Engineering is fantastic. We’ll be excited if current kid gets in.

What school are they applying to because that matters (engineering)

4.0 UW, 13 APs (including Bio, Chem, and Physics and BC Calc), oos
Rank 1/600 (does Michigan look at rank?)
1500 SAT
Biology major with Hospital Volunteer program (very selective process to get this)
2 varsity sports
President of a nonprofit organization senior year

The 1500 SAT is the only thing that seems a little low for Michigan, but who knows!

Common app essay is quirky and very well written. Why Michigan essay as well researched and less "fun" but very solid.

We will see...

OOS you need ivy level grades and stats for LSA or engineering or Ross. Alumni connections mean nothing.

Those are the stats for the Music, Theatre and Dance kids. only 820 kids. That's not the Michigan freshman profile.

Talk about cherry picking stats to suit your agenda. You picked the one school at Michigan where talent is as important as a high GPA. The vast majority of applicants to any school would never make it into The School of Music, Theater, and Dance.

That's what you want. The 25th percentile is 1350 and 75th is 1530

Another Michigan basher exposed.

Michigan is a solid state school. They are looking for talented, motivated kids with different interests to put together a well-rounded class. You're DC has a great shot. Only way to find out is for them to apply. Good luck!

Yes - stats are much higher for OOS. Had 2 DCs get into Michigan Engineering (CS)
One attending. Legacy parent and grandparents.

DC1: class of 2022. 4.0 UW, 4.6W, lots of APs. SAT 1540. ECs were ok. Very good recommendations.

DC2: class of 2024. 4.3W, unsure unweighted. SAT 1590. Lots of APs. ECs ok, strong athlete. Probably good recommendations but not as strong as DC1.
