Checking in at resorts

Can't your kids play in the lobby and roll around on the couches and such? Or be taken by one parent to explore while the other parent checks in? This has never seemed like a hassle to me.

NP here. We waited forever, 20 minutes, at a resort in Williamsburg to check-in. It is incredibly annoying. I’m tired, hot, hungry and they make you wait in line forever and then check in takes 15 min. Why???

PP here. Yeah, places like Powhatan take forever. We were checked in very quickly at Kingsmill though, but it's been several years. I still think this is mostly a Caribbean problem. We didn't experience it at all in HI, nor do we normally experience it in FL.

And it feels like you’re on the Seinfeld episode where the person behind the counter is just typing away not really doing anything.

Anonymous wrote:Why is checking in at resorts so awful? It's frustrating to pay so much money and then spend 15+ minutes standing in line after hours of traveling. And then the actual check in process takes like 20 minutes while trying to keep our little kids calm. When we stay at regular hotels we can do online check in with the click of a button and go straight to our rooms.

WDW really has it down now. We do online check in, and they text us the room number and we can use our phone app to get in the room. We skip the front desk totally.

Oh have they set this system up since we went this past winter? We were exhausted when we got to Port Orleans and stood in the wrong place in the reception area waiting to check in, nobody acknowledged us then a long line formed and we had to go to the back of that. 4yo DD was tired and hungry. Fun times.

We used it last month. But also 18 months ago and during COVID.

It was a breeze. But we did the pre check on on the Disney app.

Not an option at Port Orleans

Yes it is. Just Google it. You link everything up in the Disney World app.

yeah we had the app. It wasn't an option for us, or for the long line of people waiting at the front desk. And we definitely take advantage of online check in when it's available. So my experience is not that WDW is on top of this at all.

Why wasn’t it available? Was this many years ago?

It was last year. Is it that hard for you to imagine that an app might say you have to go to the front desk to check in? Have you every even been to Port Orleans?

Do you really think this was a specific Port Orleans problem? Or perhaps an app glitch? Or issue with your particular room or something else? You made a blanked statement that at this hotel its not an option which is false.

I definitely got the impression it wasn't available. Why do you even care? You've clearly never been there. Are you a Disney employee?

OMG, yes. We go to the Caribbean each year. The flights all seem to land at similar times, making the queues to check in terrible. On the plus side, we usually get a welcome drink.

Anywhere in Mexico. They move at a glacial pace.

Inaccurate. This won't happen at Rosewood Mayakoba or at Belmond Maroma.

You just don't know what you are doing. We checked in at PO on the app and used the app as a room key last October.
