| Why is checking in at resorts so awful? It's frustrating to pay so much money and then spend 15+ minutes standing in line after hours of traveling. And then the actual check in process takes like 20 minutes while trying to keep our little kids calm. When we stay at regular hotels we can do online check in with the click of a button and go straight to our rooms. |
| Right?? It’s almost like they take a long time to make sure they are giving you your moneys worth. Is it really old computer systems? Have enough people complained about not knowing about how restaurant reservations or some amenity works that they think everyone needs an individual orientation? |

The kids get to stay in the car until we are checked in.
I love this arrangement. My DH does not 🤣 |
| Just stayed at two lovely Hawaiian resorts and didn't have to wait at all. In fact, I can't remember the last time I waited to check in somewhere. Can you give examples OP? |
Anywhere in Mexico. They move at a glacial pace. |
| Well it's cheaper right. |
| OP here - referring to our experiences with three resorts in Las Vegas, Orlando and Williamsburg. They are certainly not the fanciest resorts. The one in Orlando was definitely not cheap, for example. |
Well there you have it. They're not fancy. Orlando is expensive even for non-fancy. I've never NOT waited to check in, so I don't even know what I'm missing

I’ve found this to be the experience at basically every hotel and resort I’ve ever stayed at, in all price ranges.
Even when there’s no wait to check in (which actually happens more at the cheap ones than the fancy ones) they somehow take forever to do it. I’ll never understand. |
| We love Aruba but have found the same thing. And Puerto Rico now I think about it. Yes it’s annoying. |
“They”? Who is “they”? |
| We found this to be true at resorts that have a lot of villas and rentals that are rented out on a weekly basis, mostly Saturday to Saturday. Everyone is checking in at 4 on a Saturday afternoon, so it's hectic. |
Yes ours took over an hour last time after all the waiting in line at airports, flights etc. horrible with two young kids! |
| Island time |
My husband has such a strong aversion to any of the Caribbean/Mexico airports for this exact reason. They are such clusters. Leaves such a bad taste in his mouth that he never wants to go and is always pushing a US location. |
