Checking in at resorts

Hilton branded hotels have had this for years.

And then the actual check in process takes like 20 minutes while trying to keep our little kids calm. When we stay at regular hotels we can do online check in with the click of a button and go straight to our rooms.

WDW really has it down now. We do online check in, and they text us the room number and we can use our phone app to get in the room. We skip the front desk totally.

Oh have they set this system up since we went this past winter? We were exhausted when we got to Port Orleans and stood in the wrong place in the reception area waiting to check in, nobody acknowledged us then a long line formed and we had to go to the back of that. 4yo DD was tired and hungry. Fun times.

We used it last month. But also 18 months ago and during COVID.

It was a breeze. But we did the pre check on on the Disney app.

Not an option at Port Orleans

Yes it is. Just Google it. You link everything up in the Disney World app.

yeah we had the app. It wasn't an option for us, or for the long line of people waiting at the front desk. And we definitely take advantage of online check in when it's available. So my experience is not that WDW is on top of this at all.

Why wasn’t it available? Was this many years ago?

It was last year. Is it that hard for you to imagine that an app might say you have to go to the front desk to check in? Have you every even been to Port Orleans?

Do you really think this was a specific Port Orleans problem? Or perhaps an app glitch? Or issue with your particular room or something else? You made a blanked statement that at this hotel its not an option which is false.

I definitely got the impression it wasn't available. Why do you even care? You've clearly never been there. Are you a Disney employee?

Got the impresssion. Ok. Sounds like you had no idea what you were doing. No need to spread misinformation or tell everyone who has been there that they in fact are ones who are wrong.

I am the earlier poster, and yes, I agree. Everyone checking in to a WDW resort should just take the time to understand the app. It really is nice to go right to your room.

Another person who has not been to Port Orleans.

You can "check in online" sure, but then you get there and you have to go to the front desk they have to assign your room to you - in other words you have to check in in person. In other words online check in is not a real check in.

Sorry you couldn’t figure it out. Maybe these directions will help you next time:

There was nothing we could have done differently to have our room assigned ahead of time. The link you posted acknowledges that rooms are not assigned ahead of time in every case. We arrived quite late and were exhausted. We didn't arrive before the standard check in time. There was no reason why our room couldn't have been assigned online, but it wasn't, and I suspect this happens quite often given the lines at the front desk. But go ahead, stay at Port Orleans and see for yourself instead of acting like I'm incompetent for not being able to do something you yourself have never done.

Just stop doubling down on this. Online checkin is available there like every other WDW resort. That doesn’t sometimes there aren’t issues. Fact is, it works for some people. Stop denying the obvious. You’ve been called out a few times. It IS available but may not work every time for every person for whatever reason. You are saying it’s never an option. Not true.

I'm being accused of not being able to navigate online check in, when in fact it was not available to us or to many other people.

You also said it is NOT an option, ever. Not true.

Afaik it is not an option. I don't know what to tell you. There was no reason why it wasn't available to us and that we had to wait for 30 minutes at dinner time with a hungry preschooler (yes I took her to the restaurant myself, I guess it's too much to ask to have dinner together as a family after a long trip). You've never even been there! Jfc.

Oh FFS. I’m not PP and we always stay at Port Orleans (Sometimes Riverside, sometimes French Quarter) and we have been twice in the last year, including last fall, which was before you went apparently. And we used the app to check in, and we used the app to get into our room. This service is absolutely available at Port Orleans.

So just cut it out already. You are so wrong, and you need to stop running your mouth. Bizarre how you were doubling down on this even though everyone knows you’re wrong

DP but I was thinking of typical wait times at larger Caribbean resorts. Usually you’ve been up since about 4/5am with kids to get to airport the 2-3 hours needed ahead of international flight, so the waiting on lines thing has been going on for quite some time. Then add a 3-4 hour flight plus customs on top of that. It’s hot and everyone is cranky tired and hungry. Then you think it should be quick so you’ll just wait in the AC lobby but 5 minutes becomes 10 then 30. Maybe they are trying to pace the trickle of customers to the restaurant so kitchen doesn’t get swamped? As another poster says I just want a shower and lie down!

But yeah. Incredibly first world problems.

Anonymous wrote:I don’t think this is just a cheap resort problem as one PP suggested. We’ve stayed at insanely expensive resorts in Asia, HI, etc. The only difference is that while they’re taking a half hour to check you in, you sit in a special private check-in lounge or patio or atrium and they bring you snacks and drinks and things.

Doesn’t matter how nice the surroundings are because it feels endless, especially when they disappear with your passport. No matter how nice the waiting area is, I’m still sweating through my airplane outfit and dealing with a kid who is jet lagged or wants to use the bathroom but I can’t leave with her because someone has my bags and my passport and I just want to put my tote down and take a shower.

wait they take your passport???

Someone hasn’t traveled much

I've been to over 20 different countries but no one has ever taken my passport from me and left the room.
