And then the actual check in process takes like 20 minutes while trying to keep our little kids calm. When we stay at regular hotels we can do online check in with the click of a button and go straight to our rooms.

WDW really has it down now. We do online check in, and they text us the room number and we can use our phone app to get in the room. We skip the front desk totally.

Oh have they set this system up since we went this past winter? We were exhausted when we got to Port Orleans and stood in the wrong place in the reception area waiting to check in, nobody acknowledged us then a long line formed and we had to go to the back of that. 4yo DD was tired and hungry. Fun times.

We used it last month. But also 18 months ago and during COVID.

It was a breeze. But we did the pre check on on the Disney app.

Not an option at Port Orleans

Yes it is. Have done it multiple times in the last year.

Yes it is. Just Google it. You link everything up in the Disney World app.

yeah we had the app. It wasn't an option for us, or for the long line of people waiting at the front desk. And we definitely take advantage of online check in when it's available. So my experience is not that WDW is on top of this at all.

Why wasn’t it available? Was this many years ago?

It was last year. Is it that hard for you to imagine that an app might say you have to go to the front desk to check in? Have you every even been to Port Orleans?

Do you really think this was a specific Port Orleans problem? Or perhaps an app glitch? Or issue with your particular room or something else? You made a blanked statement that at this hotel its not an option which is false.

I definitely got the impression it wasn't available. Why do you even care? You've clearly never been there. Are you a Disney employee?

Got the impresssion. Ok. Sounds like you had no idea what you were doing. No need to spread misinformation or tell everyone who has been there that they in fact are ones who are wrong.

Resorts don't staff up for the 1 hour when everyone comes in for check in. Ao it takes time and then everyone waits.

A lot of the problem seems to be they are totally unprepared to check guests in. Oh? You want a room with one King? ‘ see what’s available. It’s not like already have things assigned and ready to go. Or I often have booked 2 adjoining rooms which is almost never actually available when we check it then we stand there for a long time while they type furiously as if they just realized your party was checking in for the day.

I am the earlier poster, and yes, I agree. Everyone checking in to a WDW resort should just take the time to understand the app. It really is nice to go right to your room.

Just stay at Hampton Inns. They have remote check in mastered.

Anywhere in Mexico. They move at a glacial pace.

Yes ours took over an hour last time after all the waiting in line at airports, flights etc. horrible with two young kids!

My husband has such a strong aversion to any of the Caribbean/Mexico airports for this exact reason. They are such clusters. Leaves such a bad taste in his mouth that he never wants to go and is always pushing a US location.

My family loves going to St John, but we always recoil at the idea of spending any more time in the Cyril E King Airport. From baggage check, to customs, to the waiting area it's like, I understand why they walk you AROUND the airport, OUTDOORS, when you arrive to take you to baggage claim. Best not know what's waiting for you when it's time to fly home.

Anonymous wrote:I don’t think this is just a cheap resort problem as one PP suggested. We’ve stayed at insanely expensive resorts in Asia, HI, etc. The only difference is that while they’re taking a half hour to check you in, you sit in a special private check-in lounge or patio or atrium and they bring you snacks and drinks and things.

Doesn’t matter how nice the surroundings are because it feels endless, especially when they disappear with your passport. No matter how nice the waiting area is, I’m still sweating through my airplane outfit and dealing with a kid who is jet lagged or wants to use the bathroom but I can’t leave with her because someone has my bags and my passport and I just want to put my tote down and take a shower.

wait they take your passport???

Great wolf lodge has kiosks now. Perryville location. Zero wait and don’t need to watch someone pretend to type. Took me 3-4 minutes to complete the kiosk check in.

Yes

Definitely my experience when staying at Caribbean, Mexican resorts - especially nicer ones. It is so frustrating. We do a lot of road trips thru out the year and I don’t understand why even (especially) cheapo US chains have no problems. Wristbands are also so much more seamless at US resorts.

Another person who has not been to Port Orleans.

You can "check in online" sure, but then you get there and you have to go to the front desk they have to assign your room to you - in other words you have to check in in person. In other words online check in is not a real check in.

Hampton Inns don't require any staff to check people in. You do it online and go straight to your room.
