President Joe Biden on Wednesday evening told more than 20 Democratic governors in a private meeting that he underwent a medical checkup after last week’s debate and is fine, according to three people with knowledge of the discussion.

During an hour-long meeting prompted by intensifying concerns about his health and political viability, one governor asked Biden about his physical condition. The president mentioned having had a checkup in recent days and asserted that he remains in good health, knocking on wood for effect, according to two of those people, who were granted anonymity to describe a private meeting.

That statement came just hours after press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre sidestepped direct questions from reporters who asked if he’d been examined since the debate.
“The president has regular annual physicals that we release in a thorough report,” she said. “We’re going to continue to do that.”

Biden’s remark, according to a person familiar with the president’s schedule, was in reference to a short checkup by a White House physician in the days following the debate due to lingering symptoms from his cold. The exam, that person added, was brief and did not include any major tests.

Does this address the concerns about Biden’s health satisfactorily?

No. Biden needs to face reality. He’s just too old. He’s in very good health for his age. But he needs to let it go.

Trump is only 3 years younger and in worse health than Biden given he's morbidly obese, is addicted to junk food, and has far more of a family history of alzheimers and cardiac issues than Biden's family..

Alzheimers is not hereditary.

I watched the debates along with 60 million other people. I don't like Trump's words but he is far more fit and acute and engaged and sharp as a tack than Joe Biden.

That is why the NYT immediately came out with an editorial pleading Biden to step aside.

I don’t know that I would call Trump sharp as a tack- he is old too. But compared Biden, it did appear that way

Trump was just making things up all throughout the debate. Unlike Biden, Trump was also unable to stay focused on the question that the moderators asked. It was clear to me that unlike Biden, he didn't actually have command of any real facts or figures. Fact checkers had a field day with the nonsense that came out of Trump. People with dementia have issues with short term memory, they are bad at memorizing new facts and figures, they have difficulty staying focused on topic. Trump showed far more of those signs during the debate than Biden did.

Trump used the questions asked to pivot to issues where he is perceived as stronger like immigration. That is not a lack of focus; rather he was taking advantage of the debate format.

He definitely does gloss over statistics but that came off better than Biden trying to use statistics and mangling the numbers. Number sense is one of the first things to go in diseases that affect cognitive abilities. If Biden has another debate, his preppers should train him to avoid using numbers in his responses.

Just because you’re breathing doesn’t mean that you’re fit to be president.

I work at the White House for events and Biden's decline over his presidency has been very noticeable - both physically (in the way he moves, walks, etc.) and mentally (in the way he speaks and interacts with guests/the public/his staff). It's been shocking. I've worked there through four Presidents and I've never seen anything like this.

I want to vote for Biden if he's the candidate, but I'm going to have a hard time doing it. I would vote for anyone else the democrats put up with much more enthusiasm. If Biden is the candidate, I might have to either not vote or write in. He's not fit for another four years. And yes, I agree that Trump is a lunatic and know that not voting for Biden is a vote for Trump, but I am not sure my conscience will allow a vote for Biden either.

LOL.
No. Not "check up" is going to allay the concerns.
He needs to have a live interview with a true journalist.... not some influencer or late night host.... and perform well.
He needs to have a press conference where he is free to call on reporters who are not prescreened and doesn't tell them that he is "going to get in trouble" for answering questions. No list of preapproved reporters for him. And, he needs to perform well.

In a nutshell..... he needs to do what other modern day presidents have done.

This is what needs to happen. Anything short of this is unacceptable.

Thanks for sharing this. This fits my perception as a regular citizen. All this talk about Biden's "fitness" but no direct evidence of it has been insulting. And the debate was shattering. I mean, he knew about the debate and that it was a pivotal, critical moment for him. And it went horribly. This means that if there is some real *governing* crisis he likewise is incapable of necessarily being present. And it could not have been an anomaly, as he hasn't been out there showing us his fitness outside of 1 rally and a now "15 minute" interview?

I will vote for Biden if I have too, but I am deeply upset the Democratic party has let this go on like that. And Biden and especially his family have tarnished what would otherwise have been a true legacy of a lifelong statesma. Isn't he old enough to know about Woodrow Wilson? And not only his tarnished legacy but the real likelihood that governing through his ineptitude likely contributed in a real way to the terrible course of events after World War I that led to World War II?

And yes, for the record, the Republican desire for fascism, utter corruption, and general loathsomeness still make them even worse, and Trump, yes, also needs to step out of the race, though he has gutted the party so completely, it is even more challenging to see what they could do.

If only Shakespeare were alive, these days have given him some great material.

There have to be a hundred more people like you - why have you all not said anything sooner. But for the debate, most of America would have no idea!!

This has to be the biggest coverup in American history.

The 10 part documentary will be legendary.

PP. Trump is also too old and also has incipient dementia, probably Alzheimer’s. Trump is not in good health for his age. He should also head off to his golf course.

You forgot that a few people watched the debate live. Oops.

Yup. It isn’t his heart, lungs and blood pressure we are worried about. It’s his brain (which wasn’t all that great in his prime.)

I agree with your first sentence, but not your second. Anyone with eyes and a willfulness to see the truth saw that Biden was a shell. Why do you think the Biden administration didn't release the Hur audio tapes of the 5 hour interview and Biden used executive privilege to stop them being given to congress?

Because they knew how bad he was and hid it from the American people. Heads need to roll.

That you cannot scream "but Trump!" now and get a pass. We saw on live television that Biden is in full cognitive decline.
