It's as simple as this. A 4.0 GPA is very good for WAsh U Law. Below indicates a 3.12 is the rate of those enrolls. so the school - which has rolling admissions - always a bad sign of a school on the rise - is willing to lock into OP's kid NOW in order to get that GPA. But OP's kid is forgoing the opportunity to apply to the higher hanged law schools. Since everything today is about T14 or above to get a job, this is a very bad offer.
What are the odds of getting into WashULaw? What is the Washington University Law School Acceptance Rate? Applications Offers Class of 2023 4,613 1275 (27,64%) 25% Median GPA 3.18 3.67 LSAT 161 167 |
OP here. Thanks good stuff. Practice lsats are not top 10 and may be enough for t14 with the GPA. So we have to keep options open. Hoping with a 4.0 (I know school does not matter but have to beleive coming from an ivy means something) and say a 165-166 there is a shot for bottom of T14. She feels it went well. |
WashUStL is ranked #16 among the 197 ABA accredited law schools according to US News 2024 rankings; you may be conflating WashUStL with #44 University of Washington's law school in Seattle. |

I considered it, because they offered me a full ride to their law school. However, I preferred the smaller class size of a similarly-ranked law school that made a comparable offer. I was happy there, and able to get the jobs I wanted (but was not interested in appellate or an appellate clerkship - I was able to get a Federal district court one).
Why not just do the interview? |

OP, ignore the pressure for T14 or bust. It depends on what your kid wants to practice and quality of life matters. Not everyone wants a federal clerkship or a big law job. And yes, students in excellent but not “14” schools are getting federal clerkships and big law jobs. DCUM’s resident recruiter is insufferable.
If your kid is applying straight out of undergrad, they are at a huge disadvantage in admissions unless they bring something else to the table or the school thinks they’re lifting them out of poverty. And going to a still excellent school with a lot of merit aid is smarter than taking in $300,000 debt for a “t14”. |
Curious as to whom/what you are referring. |
Good luck. DD is a 3.7 (not a 4.0) because he started as an aerospace engineering student at UVA; he switched at the end of his first year and entered a humanities course and was straight As from that point on. So now he has to offset the "low" gpa of 3.7 with a high LSAT or other ECS. He's done what with a Mphil and Dphil from Oxford. He took the LSAT last week and thought it went well. Interestingly, on the older tests he didn't break a 170. But the last test he took (newer sample test) was a 175. so we are praying. Best of luck to you. |
| I almost went to Wash U 30 years ago. Scored very well on the LSAT and actually considered going there, as they offered a partial scholarship. Ending up going to law school in DC, as it afforded more opportunities from a career perspective. |
|
I got quite a few unexpected solicitations from law schools offering scholarships -- but that was after I took the LSAT. They got my score (99th percentile) from LSAC because apparently when I took the test I checked a box that allowed LSAC to release my score to schools for that purpose.
But that was after my LSAT grade came in. |

Wash U is in Missouri
Wash U has Josh Hawley & his shit wife Wash U is in a state that does not feed children but does feed the republican legislature lunch. Wash U is in Missouri one of the worst red states in this country and when Project 2025 is installed your DD will not be leaving that state. You going to risk that you are an idiot. |
What? How are you defining "very good"? It's top 20. |
I'm "in the legal field." And I agree with PP that drawing some big distinction between 14 and 16 is silly. Why did you snark that PP is "clearly not in the legal field" instead of saying "clearly not a lawyer"? Lol, I think we have another paralegal running their mouth up in here. |
Sure, Jan. |
| I went to YLS and frankly, was under the impression that WashU Law was the University of Washington’s law school for way into mid career. |
