Law School Solicitation Wash U

Anonymous
Law school admissions are no longer just GPA and LSAT. DC had a 3.9 and 174 and waitlisted at all T13. It’s more like undergrad - they want diversity of some kind.

Any abortion healthcare needs can be met with a quick drive or Metra ride across the river to Illinois.

No common sense. Yale grad. That definitely tracks.

well, put it into context. It's not a T14. UVA is tied at 4 and even GMU/Scalia is at 28

There is no difference between 14 and 16. Silly.

I'm not silly. I'm a harvard law grad and a recruiter. Maybe you should read more. https://www.collegeessayguy.com/blog/t14-law-schools

He's just talking about T14 schools. No one said WUSTL was T14

WashUStL is ranked #16 among the 197 ABA accredited law schools according to US News 2024 rankings; you may be conflating WashUStL with #44 University of Washington's law school in Seattle.

U.S. New rankings have gone to shit. Law firms and judges don’t consider Wash U to be that highly ranked. That said, if someone wants to go to Chicago, it will probably be fine as a good regional school.

Below indicates a 3.12 is the rate of those enrolls. so the school - which has rolling admissions - always a bad sign of a school on the rise - is willing to lock into OP's kid NOW in order to get that GPA. But OP's kid is forgoing the opportunity to apply to the higher hanged law schools. Since everything today is about T14 or above to get a job, this is a very bad offer.

What are the odds of getting into WashULaw?
What is the Washington University Law School Acceptance Rate?
Applications Offers
Class of 2023 4,613 1275 (27,64%)
25% Median
GPA 3.18 3.67
LSAT 161 167

Flip side is that Washington University gives a healthy amount of merit aid for the kids who can raise their stats and standings. Law school is expensive, if you can get a highly ranked school cheap, it's probably worth it.

Could you link to your source for that? Could you be mixing it up with another school?

My two friends are incredibly successful and went to Wash U. One certainly can do well there. Both partners in top 20 big law firms.

My concern is with the markets the school feeds. Chicago and St Louis are really bleak in terms of their future. Than again, cities like Dallas do take students from Wash U. Markets like Kansas Cit do too. The law firm I have ever engaged is from Kansas City. There is some excellent work in mid size cities. After your first few years, you experience and skill take over. I went to one of the best firms in New York after Georgetown - my adviser said don't pass it up. I am glad my first job was at this firm. And Georgetown barely got me in there - you really had to do well, Wash U - good school but must be thoughtful in obtaining outcomes.

I know these things are anecdotal, but a 44 floor modern skyscraper in St Louis just sold for 2.6 million - just concerned about St Louis as an economic hub going forward. I like St Louis if you can live in the nicer parts and it is a good living.

Chicago biglaw partner here.

No one attending WashU law school stays in STL to practice….and Chicago certainly has a thriving legal market.

3 years in STL is not the doomsday scenario you’ve made it out to be.

You can be successful from any law school frankly, if you have hustle. I have two friends who went to Northern Illinois University School of Law. One of them is a partner at a biglaw firm in Chicago. The other one is teaching law.

Who are you? This is not true at all. They have been thought of as elite for 30 years.

Not their law school. It’s not even considered “elite” today.

They offered me a scholarship and invited me to their diversity recruitment event. I called them and told them they had made a mistake, that I am white, and they told me "We don't have very many women here." Lol. This was 25 years ago.

I agree with this. As I said earlier, the law school’s reputation still lags its ranking. Look at how many Wash U grads are in the top DC law firms, for example, as compared to a school like Notre Dame. They’re both Midwest private schools in bad towns, and ND is consistently ranked a few spots lower, yet ND does better nationally in placement.

OP here. Thanks good stuff. Practice lsats are not top 10 and may be enough for t14 with the GPA. So we have to keep options open. Hoping with a 4.0 (I know school does not matter but have to beleive coming from an ivy means something) and say a 165-166 there is a shot for bottom of T14. She feels it went well.

DD just took the lsat. did yout DD have a coach? once? dies she plan to take again?

It may be just outside T14, but WashU has a great law school that will get you great placement in any major city

People don’t appreciate this until they actually experience it

It’s comical to hear middle-aged lawyers on here saying they got into Harvard with a 3.7 and 175

I don’t think this is true.
