No, I was asking if it’s the same school and why someone would say they are attending Columbia if they attend Barnard. I figured there must be a reason. OP |
Why not use one name then? OP |
Neighbor is saying Barnard-Columbia because Columbia is an Ivy. Surely your get this, OP? |
Barnard is an affiliate. They have to pay annually to Columbia for it. |
You don’t get it. That is exactly what bothers OP |
Show us the evidence |
And? Here are the facts. Barnard’s official title is “Barnard College, Columbia University” Barnard grads receive a Columbia degree. Columbia reviews Barnard faculty for tenure. Barnard is inside the Columbia quad. It was originally independent but the Columbia trustees were persuaded in the 1880s to make it the Columbia women’s college since Columbia College was all male. Admittedly the relationship is unique and not easily characterized in simple terms. But it’s not like Barnard is some parasite leeching off Columbia. None of the above would happen without Columbia’s knowledge and blessing that Barnard is part of Columbia. So back to my earlier point-why does it bother OP or anyone else for someone going to Barnard to say they are going to Barnard-Columbia or even just Columbia. Do you require GSA students to say they aren’t part of the “real” Columbia? Oh wait you probably would 🙄🙄🙄 |
| FWIW Barnard athletes play in the Ivy League. |
| It's a bit unique but Columbia lists them as one of their undergraduate schools in its website, so it seems to be accurate. |
| If someone went to Wharton undergrad, would you object to them saying they went to Penn? Sometimes they may just say it because people have heard of one not the other and its simpler to explain. |
| Barnard-Columbia sounds so desperate |
| UVA list Wise as their campus, so is UVA Wise UVA? |
| What difference does it make? Seriously, why does anyone care? |
OP cares and probably posts this every few months |
| No, but both are excellent schools. Kids that go to Barnard should NOT have a chip on their shoulder. I went to NYU in the early 90s and both Barnard and Columbia had a great reputation (NYU was good back then, but nothing like it is now). |
