Now all the trade associations are throwing a fit. I can’t believe there were so many idiotic deniers that let this get so awful. I’ve been screaming about it for 3 years. I’m so horribly disappointed in this city, which I used to love so much that I said if I ever got a tattoo it would be the DC flag. I hope we finally do something and stop killing people with these ridiculous pro-criminal/anti-victim policies. https://www.investmentcouncil.org/wp-content/uploads/2024/02/DC-Trade-Association-Letter-to-Mayor-and-City-Council-02.29.2024-.pdf
The entire thing boils crime issue comes to capitalism vs. disproportionate impact. The stats are bad and so incarcerating people became less popular as social justice activists in the wake of George Floyd got the council’s ear and now all the policies are about wrap around services and alternatives to tough on crime stuff like violence interruptors. This entire problem could be solved if the USAO didn’t suck and actually prosecuted and the council got serious about crime. But no we have lenient members like Allen who basically sides with the perpetrators or crime over victims. Either get tough, like El Salvador, or watch this sht continue.
