Pissed at UVA

You paid an app fee? You're an idiot. Third week in October was free application to every school in the commonwealth.

Doesn't your school have to have a certain percentage of students getting free lunches in order to qualify to the free application? Maybe OP's kid doesn't attend one of those schools?

Virginia College Application Week (VCAW) application fee waivers are available to students attending a registered host high school that serves a population of students where 50% or more are eligible for free or reduced-price lunch.

UVA doesn't favor legacy at all for in-state applicants. OOS legacy gets considered with the in state applicants, IIRC.

DS's best friends (FCPS) both had 3.8 UW/ 4.2+ WGPA (so we think) with 1480+ SATs. One was Hispanic with 2 UVA alum parents, one was white but descended from 2 generations of UVA alums (including both parents).

Both were rejected in 2021.

So no, the school doesn't favor legacy at all. And VA opted to build up VT, JMU, GMU, VCU, etc., instead of expanding UVA and W&M (or, more accurately, the former UVA/W&M satellite campuses became CNU, ODU, etc.). The reality is that many applicants who appeared like strong candidates for UVA in the 1980s now have to head to JMU (and that's no walk in the park either).

OP is either a troll or completely clueless.

Plus I find it very hard to believe that the six “friends” have all already decided where they are going to school.

all true. The Va publics have become very popular with good reason. FWIW, UVA and W&M were some of the first schools started in the US so have no room to expand grounds/campuses. However, the UVA Foundation is actively trying to acquire land for the to be developed north campuses of law, data science and new joint replacement at UVA. So it wasn't that the Commonwealth decided not to invest more in W&M and UVA, it was smart to invest where the campuses could still be expanded to meet the needs of all virginians

Sorry that you are frustrated about your daughter’s experience.

Mine was waitlisted and I am thrilled to hear about some not accepting their offers

Please don't feed the troll

This is a troll.

Anyone whose teen applied this year knows that UVA stopped doing deferrals this year.

And the troll mentioned "not even deferred".

But..... six of her friends got in EA and only two are going. So, 4 spots just pissed into the wind at her HS. And she has to sit it all out.

It just sucks. I can't help but be irate that some kid from Jersey can go there but my daughter can't

The measly $1000 I donated every year will cease.

Send her to Rutgers. That'll show those Jersey greaseballs who's boss.

This has to be a troll post.

I thought this thread was going to be about a drunk British study abroad student at UVA.

I am really sorry. That stinks. Maybe it was not meant to be. I know that is difficult to imagine now but maybe there is another plan for her. Good luck.

You gotta admit the OP has a valid point about those scumbags from New Jersey.🕺🏻

While I do think the OP is a troll, do think posts like this would be helpful for many that still think legacy does something (even before the law may change to make even more clear it does nothing).

except that someone like their fictitious child doesn't have the stats needed for UVA. If you are going to troll, at least look up the stats it takes to get admitted, then boost your fictitious kids' stats above that and then claim "pissed at UVA"
