My DD got straight up rejected from EA, not even deferred. She's legacy, 1350 and 3.75, 4 year varsity athlete, and part time employee so it was a bit of a shock. More like depressing disappointment.
But..... six of her friends got in EA and only two are going. So, 4 spots just pissed into the wind at her HS. And she has to sit it all out. It just sucks. I can't help but be irate that some kid from Jersey can go there but my daughter can't The measly $1000 I donated every year will cease. |
Send her to Rutgers. That'll show those Jersey greaseballs who's boss. |
| She had a 1350, why are you surprised? That's embarrassingly low for a top school like UVA |
so is the GPA. |
You only donated $1000/year. Maybe if it was something more substantial it would've helped her case. |
OP's entitlement and privilege is showing |
Is the 3.75 GPA weighted or unweighted? |
| Are you serious? Seems parodic. |
| Your child's stats are not even close for UVA. I'm sorry that you had built up her expectations to continue the family dynasty instead of applying somewhere that would be a better fit for her. |
| 1350 SAT, easy reject, why submit that score? Consider the application fee a gift. |
Are you from FCPS. I assume 3.75 is her unweighted GPA. That unweighted GPA is low for an FCPS highschool. Your daughter is going to be happy wherever she ends up. Having a good attitude about whatever school she is going to will go a long way to helping her. Virginia parents take heed. UVA is a very hard admit. Help manage expectations. |
You paid an app fee? You're an idiot. Third week in October was free application to every school in the commonwealth.
|
OP is an embarrassment of a parent. No knowledge about the process at all. At least try to do some research... |
I'm very sorry about your disappointment but my DC with much higher stats was deferred last year and never got off the WL. Personally, I am not surprised by your DC's result. Try transferring in next year? |
OK, OP, I get it but realistically 1) UVA no longer as of last summer has a legacy box. you can, however, talk in a supplemental essay about why your UVA legacy matters to your student. 2) So your $1000 amounts don't count. And in the real scheme of things little financial amounts don't count. I'm an Ivy grad but could never give six to seven digits counts for admissions. Our legacy DS kid got waitlisted at Legacy Ivies, and regular ivies, etc. That might have turned out different if we had given big donations but we could not afford to do so. Get realistic about the $1000 contributions. 3) a 1350 SAT is too low for UVA. Schev reports the 75th percentile (which is what you should be shooting for if from NOVA or DMV) to be a 1510 for 75th percentile of last year's class. https://research.schev.edu//enrollment/B10_FreshmenProfile.asp 4) the gpa is way too low but I assume that may be private and unweighted. Nevertheless, the 75th percentile of students at UVA reported having a 4.51 last year (4.38 at the median) and 4.20 for the bottom 25th of the class). This is what you are up against if applying to UVA I do hope you talked extensively with your high school counselor before putting in this application. |
